It might be a while before we’re sure what Johnson’s NBA strengths will be, but it’s rare to find a player so young without an obvious weakness. Does he check off every box?

I'm not worried about him not accepting any role/responsibilities handed to him. He values winning above all else, as someone who won 4 state championships usually does and he's already talked about how highly he values what his versatility can bring to the team.

Reality is that he's not quite as good as some posts the past week or so have made him out to be (pretty much anything that mentioned similarity to LeBron) and the competition and P&R defense he'll face in the league will be much, much more difficult.

But he's not and will not be relegated to being a 3&D guy, you can quote me on that. It might not happen immediately, or even in his first year...but eventually he'll be utilized as a secondary ball handler. His handle and ability to score in the mid range area are far, far too good to merely be a 3&D guy (have you watched any of his games?) Aside from Reggie who else do we have in the starting lineup to create offense? Dre's shown flashes but he's not a consistent threat to create offense, Ilyasova/KCP wont be creating offense...so that leaves a gap for Stanley to create some offense and take some of the load off Reggie.

I've seen him in college and summer league. The reason I throw in the old Joe Johnson side of the comparison is because he can create his own, but mostly from the perimeter using his strong body well. On our team he should get his chances because no other wing on our team can create a shot. Getting to the rack and being efficient with it that is what I question though because he just doesn't get much lift.

Each number is a point. I didn't have the patience or time to type a structured paragraph. There is a lot of one-sided love for Stanley right now, and no negativity. On RealGM especially. I mentioned a few things that stand out as weaknesses while still maintaining I'm very high on him, and a lot depends on his approach and usage. I think BigShot got it... Sometimes you gotta abandon the structure!

Their hasn't already been enough negativity toward Stanley already? I read through that Draft thread and it was 80% negativity.

Johnson isn't perfect, just like everyone else on the planet. He has definitely impressed 99% of the pistons fans so far though.

The only reason he's talking so much is because he's being asked questions. What is he supposed to say?? He actually gives coherent answers which is a nice change from most of the NBA guys. He has confidence and if he wants to be successful, he needs to be.

I don't say anything negative because he is 19 and pretty much exactly what I expected out of him, he is only 19, i'm sure we will see some growing pains, if he don't holy crap the league better watch out. He can and will improve every aspect of his game, he has room to, but for being 19 seems to be ahead of the curve

Who can't wait to see Stanley matchup against LeBron for the first time? Who knows by then fans from around the league might be looking forward to it. This has just been summer league, but DAMN, he made a 78-game NBA starter look like NBDL trash today and has shown no weakness, at all(besides free throws, but it's very small sample size and is the easiest to project from college), in his game...

The way I see it, if Stanley does become a deadly 3-point shooter, not just good but elite at 40% and fairly high volume by year 3, that would make him the best player in this draft class and perhaps our entire team. Yes, even Drummond. *gasp* Can't wait to see Drummond play with him.

Even without an NBA 3-point shot at all though, he still would clearly have a spot in this league. Pistons are going to be a helluva lotta fun to watch this year.

He sounds like a leader. Sounds like he'll be earning all of his teammates, coaches, and Detroit fans respect pretty quickly. That's what has changed in my mind with his summer league dominance from where I was at before. I was thinking high energy 3 and D role player that could defend 3 positions and occasionally get to the hoop with above average rebounding... That's perfect, but we might WANT him to handle the ball to make the right decisions when the pressure is on, focus on 3 and Ds at the 4 and 2 lol. He might BE that leader we need to take the team on his back, trust him to make the RIGHT basketball decision, so Detroit wins the game. Do you realize how much Detroit is going to love this kid? The face of the franchise?

People keep skipping that fact. Why do we still doubt him? I don't know. This year is going to make Stan Van Gundy the most favorite coach in Detroit sports.
