So nobody else sees Hilliard taking some minutes? Projections?

Post#1 » by 313 Professor » Fri Jul 17, 2015 12:20 am

Stanley overshadowed Hilliard in summer league with a lot of people paying attention to him, but Hilliard played VERY well too. KCP is considered a part of the "young core" too and his minutes don't seem to be up for grabs but what about Hilliard? He provides a better handle that neither KCP nor Meeks can provide, and his stroke is right up there with theirs especially considering the fact that he can get to it off a dribble a lot smoother. He displays great composure on the court as well.

Call me crazy, but I think he should and will get some quality minutes next year. Hilliard can REALLY play. Catch & shoot, P&R, finishes smooth with a lane, pullups, smooth stroke.... He reminds me of Klay Thompson. Almost a clone with slightly less bounce. The pro game will really allow his skillset to shine over the crowded college and SL games. I think he might be one of the steals of the draft and I'm loving ALL of SVG's picks so far (Dinwiddie, Stanley, Hilliard)

Thoughts on Hilliard getting PT?

I want to see pre season. It might be tough for him tho, KCP, Meeks, Morris, and Stanley.

I think he'll follow the similar path to Singler. Be servicable and productive, and then traded in a package for key piece. Hillard does bring versatilitiy and IQ to the team. I just don't see Rookies as major factors this year

No Hilliard doesn't look all that good to me. Almost no hops and didn't play well in SL even tho he is a older rookie. Plus what is these handles you speak of 313 cause I didn't see them.

I see Hilliard and Dinwiddie winning a lot of games for the Grand Rapids Drive this upcoming season.

I would be surprised if he gets minutes this year. I see him hopefully playing well in the d-league, then fighting for minutes next season. Who knows, maybe he'll catch fire in training camp though

Man... Meeks can sit. Not because he's trash but because Hilliard I think is that good and KCP is more versatile defensively and hopefully can match his shooting

I'm starting to really love this team... Jennings, Dinwiddie, Jackson, KCP, Hilliard, Stanley, Morris, Illyasova, Baynes, Drummond, Meeks, Anthony... the final active 12 I hope we have. I can't wait, I haven't been this excited since McDyess!! :D :D :D :D

My hype train was started as soon as he was picked. You can jump on now if you want, i'm sure there will still be room during the season too. I'm all a board it tho :D

He'll play a lot of minutes - in Grand Rapids. No room for him on the 13 man active roster barring an injury. Five wings will be KCP, Meeks, Morris, Johnson and Bullock. Bullock gets the edge over Hilliard in that he is a 2/3 whereas Hilliard is a pure 2-guard right now. Steve Blake will be the other player inactive when the roster is healthy.

KCP|Meeks
Morris|Johnson|Bullock
Ilyasova|Tolliver
Drummond|Baynes|Anthony

i've probably been the 3rd longest tenured Piston poster on the SJ hype train. My opinion isn't so much a reflection of what i think SJ can or can't do, but more so what history tells us Rookies end up doing. There are outliers(Bron wade, Lee), and SJ shows the ability to be one of them. I just can't take a definitive stance that he can play at the next level based on a SL game

I would be very surprised if he gets any minutes outside of garbage time. KCP should be better than last year and Meeks should be healthy. Plus jennings and Reggie will be playing together for some spurts, so there's not many minutes to go around.

I think he'll impress enough to take that last spot from Tolliver. Baynes, Ilyasova, Morris, and Stanley can play the 4. Bullock has a nice stroke too but I think Hilliard might ball on him too.

This

Once Jennings gets healthy there will be no time for him with our deep backcourt. Even if Jennings isn't ready to go right away I don't see him getting minutes over KCP or Meeks.

and Bullock

originally i thought Hillard had a chance to get some minutes behind KCP due to his potential on defense and versatitilty . Something meeks doesn't bring. However if anyone where to take that spot, it'll more than likley be a guy with the same profile but 2 years in the league
