Filler like Granger and Martin.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yes. It might bring trouble, but a rebuilding team's job is to increase the talent level.

If the club is comfortable with his legal issues, definitely.

We can trade Jennings straight up for him under the CBA. I'd do it, it's unknown when Jennings will make it back and he's likely going for a starting job next summer unless he's damaged goods. Lawson is a better player anyway, yes he's got his issue but hopefully the trade wakes him up.

Nope. Jennings makes less money, has a shorter contract, has less off court issues, and has already proven to fit wonderfully in SVGs offense. The only question is the injury which he seems to be on schedule with to make comeback when the season begins or shortly after. I say we stick with him.

Tough one.

Right now I'm saying no. I think we don't want him right now for the same reason Denver doesn't- we have our PG of the future and don't need any additional baggage messing with that situation. I'm not sure they can play together and unconvinced that its worth any potential risk. I'll be the first to admit the curious part of me (which is a pretty big part) is intrigued by the possibility, but every other part of me says no.

We committed to Reggie Jackson. This guy brings potential chemistry issues in addition to his off the court issues.

Everyone here is forgetting how good Lawson was when his team wasn't terrible. He was shouldering too heavy a scoring load in Denver, and was hurt by playing in the Triangle. SVG would turn the guy back into an excellent point guard running our high-paced offense from the bench, similar to the offense he was excelling in under Karl. After rehabbing his value, we'd be able to flip him for more than we sent to get him no problem, especially since his contract will look nice once the cap goes up.

If Denver was willing to do that sort of deal, we should be all over it.

If that's all we have to pay (expirings), I say yes... the potential upside from that deal is crazy.

It's an awkward fit. Both the character concerns of Lawson and the talent. What I mean by that, is even if he gets himself together (which may be a long shot in itself), there is a good chance he could outperform Reggie Jackson. What happened the last time Reggie Jackson was consigned to a bench role? OKC couldn't get him out of the locker room soon enough. So what are the odds that a) Lawson fixes his personal issues AND b) Lawson's talent doesn't cause friction with Reggie in the locker room? There are too many different ways it could go wrong.

same. the skills he has would make him a serious 6th man of the year player too. could make his value go right back off and dump him or keep him until he expires.

Lawson > Jennings even before Jennings' injury.

So it's a yes from me.

How could anyone advocate keeping Jennings over Lawson?

SVG turned Jennings and Augustin into premier PG with his coaching / system, god only knows what he can do with Lawson.

We should make this trade every day of the week. Lawson is not addicted to coke or meth, he drinks. Rasheed would come home and finish a bottle of liquor after games in 2004/2005/2006 it just wasn't in the press because he didn't fcuk up and drink and drive.

No. I don't want Lawson anywhere near our young guys, I'd rather have Brandon.

I'm a little concerned how Jennings reacts to having to carve a role around Jackson as the starting and main point guard. I don't think we gave Reggie 80M to compete for the job or play the two.

Perhaps, Jennings/Meeks for Lawson. Lawson is a solid 3 point shooter who averaged 9.6apg last year. And, I could see Lawson and Reggie play together at times. Would be very interesting.

Someone on the Denver board aggregated Lawson's transgressions:
RenK wrote:Aug. 17, 2013: Lawson and his
girlfriend are arrested after a
domestic violence dispute in
Arapahoe County. The case was later
dismissed.
April 4, 2014: Lawson is held out of
the starting lineup of a game at
Memphis because he missed a team
breakfast meeting.
Jan. 23, 2015: Lawson is arrested in
Denver on suspicion of drinking
and driving after a team charity
event. He was stopped going 61 mph
in a 35-mph zone and refused to
take a chemical test.
Feb. 18, 2015: Lawson fails to return
from a trip to Vegas in time for the
Nuggets' first practice after the all-
star break, irking then coach Brian
Shaw.
April 27, 2015: Lawson responds to a
fan's now-deleted Instagram
comment that he should join the
Mavericks. "I wish," Lawson
responded, creating a firestorm of
speculation about his desire to leave
Denver.
June 25, 2015: In a video posted
during the NBA draft, Lawson is
seen smoking a hookah and telling
friends: "Told you. I'm going to
Sacramento, bro."
July 13, 2015: Because of his
"traveling schedule," it is
announced that Lawson will miss
his youth skills camp.
July 14, 2015: Lawson is arrested in
Los Angeles on suspicion of
drinking and driving after an officer
spotted him traveling "at a high rate
of speed" at 1:30 a.m.

Really another chance?
There is no cure for stupidity.

I voted no because Lawson has such serious personal issues. He's very talented, no doubt, but we finished the season last year with a pretty solid locker room. The team has to integrate Morris, who is known as a bit of a knucklehead. Do they really want to deal with two of them?
