You're SVG and it's time to resolve the Morris twins situation

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Sun Aug 9, 2015 9:57 pm

You've got two trade offers on the table.

1) Terrence Ross for Marcus Morris - Good player on a reasonable deal, but expiring.

2) Markieff Morris for Ersan Ilyasova - higher upside but some risk here

Markieff makes it very clear he wants no part of coming here unless his brother stays.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't do the Ross trade because $5M for Marcus over the next four years has the potential to be a HUGE steal given the exploding cap. No way I trade Ilyasova for Markieff - no way in hell. Now if Marcus is fine being here without his brother, and it's a situation where Markieff just wants out of Phoenix because he believes they did him (and Marcus) dirty and doesn't care where he goes as long as it's out of PHX I think that is the best situation. If both are angling to get back together I'd just hope it was on a third team and maybe we could work out a deal to send Marcus to wherever his brother lands.

Trade Jennings for Kief and call it a day.

I'd probably trade for Ross. I'm worried about Marcus. Tough call between that and doing nothing. Under no circumstances do I deal for Kieff.

I understand it's hypothetical, but it's unrealistic as SVG just isn't going to trade him. Ersan was his favorite offseason move and has coveted him for years.

It would be more productive to include trades that would actually have a chance at happening.

Keep Marcus and leave Kieff out of it.

Ross is expiring - we'd spend more replacing him than what we're paying Marcus.

On one hand you could argue that SVG putting the twins back together buys him loyalty - on the other hand you can argue they need to spend some time apart to grow as individuals and that together the potential for disaster is just too great.

Best to leave it alone IMO

I don't understand the fascination with Markieff Morris. He's just a guy.

You forgot the fourth option

Trade Jennings, Cartier Martin for Kief and reunite the Twins

Starting caliber SF and PF for 12M total is a steal in the new cap and if they play well we have an awesome 12M trade chip

Watching Ross come to Detroit and turn into Glen Rice would be must read RealGM (if the servers can handle the load)

Since when is Marcus Morris a starting caliber SF? He may start as the season begins but he won't when it ends. The other brother is the only one with starting caliber talent.

If you're SVG, there's nothing to resolve. You have absolutely no obligation or motivation to pursue a deal for Markieff Morris. You let Marcus compete for the starting spot with Stanimal and stand pat.

The Morris twins didn't work in Phx. They are bad influences on one another, and isolate themselves from the rest of the team when they're together. That is why Phx basically gave away Morris (besides chasing LMA).

Why do some people on here constantly believe we need to reunite them despite having a massive sample size that states they probably shouldn't be playing together? I know Laimbeer won't respond to this, as he blocked me for not agreeing with his other stupid posts, but maybe someone else can weigh on on their logic?

If I was SVG, I would play middle man and find another team for the Suns to trade Markieff to. It is obvious that the Suns GM is a moron, thus he may need help. That way, Stan will gain Marcus's admiration for helping out his bro.

Take the team on a vacation Boston Celtics style without cell phones and help the twins speed up getting over their attachment disorder.

Pretty much. The pressure is on the Phoenix/Markieff side of things.

Ross is pretty underwhelming and he's going to cost more than Morris next year.
I posted it before, but I think the twins together is a bad idea.

Do absolutely nothing.

Kief has starting caliber talent, Marcus doesn't. That comes at a huge cost to the mental side of things of managing them and their egos.

It's not a situation that needs resolving .... I'm happy with having Morris battle it out with Johnson for the starting SF role / backup PF minutes. However, if SVG is offered Kief for Jennings, I would strongly consider it. If we know the legal issues are not a real problem and we can lock him up when Jennings is a question mark... I'm cool with that. Kief could play backup 5 minutes and either start at PF or help keep Ersans PF minutes down. :-? Hmmm...

Too many IFS to actually pursue it though or give something up like Ersan imo.

I want Markieff, but not if it will cost us Ersan. I would trade a combination of Meeks, Tolliver, Jennings, a heavily protected 1st for him.

Yeah, the Morris twins are a pain in the ass, but their games could flourish in SVG's system. I wouldn't care one iota about re-uniting these two if we somehow traded for Markieff instead of Marcus at the beginning of the off-season, but since we are stuck with the lesser of the twins I want the more talented one now.
