Pistons to Train with UFC fighters for a week

Post#1 » by bballnmike » Tue Aug 25, 2015 1:49 pm

Two weeks ago, some UFC fighters came to the team’s practice facility to cross train with the Pistons. Now the players are returning the favor, but will be working with the UFC trainers and coaches.

The players will be in Vegas for about a week.

“It’s an exciting time right now. The Vegas thing is a team bonding thing. It looks like we’ll be doing two-a-days. I think the main thing with that is going to be group cohesion. Obviously they aren't going to let us fight MMA fighters, you can get hurt doing that.
“I honestly don’t know where the idea came from. It might have been our equipment manager or strength coach and Stan (Van Gundy) may have had something to do with it.’’ -Dinwiddie

I think it sounds like a good idea: team bonding and a great workout.

I can't imagine this happening under Arnie Kander.

What's with people ripping Arnie Kander since his departure? The guy was awesome and I wish he was still here.

Who came up with this idea? Rick Mahorn? Must be employing the "If you can't beat them, BEAT THEM" strategy.

That tends to happen anyone leaves/joins our organization. People will find a way to hype even the worst of additions and tear down players like Middleton, Knight and Monroe after they are no longer pistons or staff like Arnie Kander as unimportant.

i hope this isn't in reference to my discussion with Kurtis, as there was no "tearing down" of Arnie.

I like this as a team bonding event, but it will definitely be a great workout. Fight training builds core strength which helps with preventing injury as well as ramping up muscle endurance and explosive strength.

Man, I hope one our guys doesn't jack an opponent during a game next year. Watch the media turn this "team building" exercise turn into a soldier of war boot camp!

I dont remember reading a convo between you two about Arnie. But nevertheless it was a general observation that probably applies to other fanbases as well as ours.
