2016 NBA Draft Thread

Post#1 » by MotownMadness » Sat Aug 29, 2015 2:43 am

I figured I would start one just to give us something extra to talk about if anyone wants. I also like checking in on the youngsters and getting a idea of what the next group has to offer. Here's Chad Fords (Boo this man) 1st mock draft.

1 - Philly - Ben Simmons
2 - Minnesota - Skal Labissiere
3 - Denver (via pick swap with NYK) - Jaylen Brown
4 - Philly (via LAL) - Jamal Murray
5 - Toronto (via NYK) - Dragan Bender
6 - Orlando - Brandon Ingram
7 - Boston (via BKN) - Malik Pope
8 - Sacramento - Malik Newman
9 - Portland - Ellenson
10 - Phoenix - Cheick Diallo
11 - Detroit - Jakob Poeltl
12 - New Orleans - Furkan Korkmaz
13 - Indiana - Kris Dunn
14 - Utah - Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
15 - Boston - Ivan Rabb
16 - Boston (via Dallas) - Zhou Qi
17 - Milwaukee - Stephen Zimmerman
18 - Toronto - Domantas Sabonis
19 - Washington - Diamond Stone
20 - Philly (via MIA) - Grayson Allen
21 - New Orleans - Chris LeVert
22 - Atlanta - Damian Jones
23 - Chicago - Demetrius Jackson
24 - Memphis - Nigel Hayes
25 - Philly (via OKC) - Justin Jackson
26 - LAC - Isaiah Briscoe
27 - Denver (via HOU) - Chinanu Onuaku
28 - San Antonio - Jalen Brunson
29 - Phoenix (via CLE) - Tyler Dorsey
30 - Golden State - Egemen Guven

Ben Simmons is looking like a really nice prospect. I'm kinda hoping we can nab LeVert and have a nice combo guard sixth man of the future if there's no nice PF prospect in our range which should be somewhere between picks 12-17.

Sabonis, please!
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Ben Simmons is the only name I'm even vaguely familiar with at this point.

Hopefully we're not in the lottery again next season.

Being a west coast guy I have seen quite a bit of Poetl(Utah) and Sabonis (Gonzaga). Love them both!!!! Both are PF types but neither shot any 3 pt fgs last year as freshman. Don't know if they can't or just a product of the way they were played. Would be hard for me to say which one I like better.

Being a Cal fan I am also familiar with Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb who will both be freshman. Cal people are comparing Brown to Stanimal which is the problem. Probably a SF but with INCREDIBLE potential. Rabb is a PF and has lots of potential. Not sure at this point if he is one and done. Any of the three have the possibility of being our PF of the future BUT at this point don't know about their 3 point shooting.

Eh out of the top 10 I really don't like any for Detroit. Sabonis is cool but can't shoot basically like a center more than a PF. Like Dunn but we have our PG. Jakob Poeltl is a Center like Andre but not a freak athlete. Maybe it would be best to trade this pick if we are not in the top ten.

But if we are in the top ten again (god I hope not) Ingrams a tall athletic shooter sounds nice. Ellenson like his play style and its the "prototype" PF in the modern NBA so is Simmons.

Likely the Pistons should have a pick between 8th (worst case scenario) and 16th.
There are many good PFs prospects in next year's draft and PF seems to be the position to reinforce.

My early rank is as follows,

1. Dragan Bender
2. Ben Simmons
3. Ivan Rabb
4. Damian Jones
5. Henry Ellenson
6. Stephen Zimmerman
7. Cheick Diallo

All this 7 are possible lotto, I'd say the top2 will be 100% out at 8th, and Rabb could be as well, so likely you will be most likely selecting among the others.

Ellenson, with his footwork, shooting range and passing is likely the best fit, sort of a Ryan Anderson-esque F, but his lack of strength and athleticism, could make him slide or even stay 2 years in college.
Jones is a more mature prospect, he is big, strong and a good offensive player, well rounded, not a pure shooter but can hit it, skilled, in a way similar to Blatche/Speights, but he plays harder.
Rabb is a Bosh/JO'Neal type of face-up PF, can use both hands, needs to add weight, sometimes a little bit hot/cold, underwhelming, but with finesse.

Like others have said Sabonis is more of a small C, he is likely going to be a good pro because of his game, he is smart, savy, plays hard, rebounding machine and is strong, but he is also more mature than others so you have to evaluate his numbers, his lack of athleticism, size and shooting makes him an inferior prospectand non-lotto worthy.
