Rename the Pistons

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Mon Sep 14, 2015 7:12 pm

There's a thread on the general board about renaming NBA teams (we are deep in the offseason, after all). Thought we'd
do our own miniature version.

If the Pistons decided they were changing their name, what would your choice be for the new name?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Move them to Flint first and then rename them the Tropics.

I would steal "Drive" from our DLeague affiliates. The Detroit (or Motor City) Drive.

The Detroit Thundercats, to go with Lions and Tigers and steal Oklahoma's thunder. :)

The Hopcats, to play along with this sacrilege.

Drive is good. If Oakland/SF can be Golden State, I'd like us to be Motor City (not just as an alt), as the Motor City Machine sounds good to me.

Oh my!

The Detroit Gores. It appeals to Tom Gores' ego, and they could have a crazy looking bull goring the mascot of the other team.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine this team with a different name. It's synonymous with the history of the city and carries too much cache to drop.

That guy who made the thread on the GB is an idiot. No reason to ever do anything he does.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

The Hornets. I mean, what's the harm in having two teams pretend to be the franchise of LJ, Mourning, Muggsy, Glen Rice and Baron Davis?

Ha, no you're not losing it. I'm just taking a vacation from my home team until they show me they're not one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

That's what I've been trying to tell them. You're preaching to the choir, man.
