Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
I've just been very impressed since SL. Very likely top 3. So far, best Piston rookie since Grant Hill.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
Stanley is one of the few rookies this year that will get consistent minutes (pick 1-4 & 6-8 specifically) and he's the most well-rounded of those guys offensively and defensively IMO. So a top 3 in rookie voting wouldn't be surprising at all.

Top 3-5 I'd guess. Hopefully SVG starts him ahead of Morris sooner than later.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
Yes, it's just preseason, but SJ has been really impressive. Towns has looked excellent. Russell has looked a little lost (and I don't think Kobe is going to give him enough shots) Okafor hasn't been impressive and is just in a bad situation for him. Porzingis looks like a project. Mudiay looks like he has the green light and might be able to put up some big numbers BUT he might lead the league in turnovers and shoot sub 40% while doing it.
We'll see. SJ looks like he is really going to fill up a stat sheet and has the potential to be an impact defender as well. If coaches were voting, I think SJ is looking like a top 3 slot. Since its sportswriters though? You've got guys in LA and NY that are going to get much more exposure and hype.

None of the other rookies look as NBA ready as he is and he's playing really well. I would find it very difficult for him not to be in the top 3.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
As long as ESPN and Chad Ford have nothing to do with it he will be top 3

He does more NBA ready than most. No telling how that will ultimately play out in terms of career trajectory, but to be able to honestly say that about him at such a young age is encouraging. If he finishes top 5 in his draft class when all is said and done I'd say we did pretty damn well with our pick. Knock on wood.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
Stanley has the heart and skill Daye lacked.
Stanley has the poise and feel for the game Knight lacked.
Stanley has the focus and work ethic Drummond lacked.
Stanley has the health Middleton lacked.
Stanley has the confidence KCP lacked.
More importantly he comes to a far more stable Pistons franchise which is something all those guys lacked when they came to the Stones. He's going to get all the developmental direction he needs as a 19 y/o coming to a franchise that is finally equipped to develop it's players.
In comparison to his draft class I think he's the best, but that will not be seen until we look at it from a three year window perspective. SVG is going to try to limit, restrain, and focus Stanley to keep him challenged and engaged as opposed to opening the doors to opportunity and letting him go for stats.
Easily top 3 IMO.

He's yet to show us anything to indicate he won't be a very good player. Even in the Brooklyn game, he had a great outing for a player coming off the bench.

Middleton lacked health? in college, sure, which is why he ended up in the 2nd round.
But, there's nothing that should haunt him as a pro at this point.

I'm gonna assume he means coming into the league. Likewise KCP is looking more and more confident lately.

Right now, Stanimal is looking like the second best pick behind KAT.

He came into the league rehabbing after a significant knee injury in his last college season. We didn't get much of an opportunity to see how special he truly was other than a handful of videos of Khris destroying his teammates in one on one drills. After his recovery year, Khris has been separating himself as one of the up and coming threes in the league.
Didn't mean to suggest his career would be limited by any lingering effects from college. I hope that clarifies.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
He's been impressive, but in all fairness, have we really watched the other guys much? I'm sure plenty of fan bases would put their guy top 3 or top 5.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Homers make outlandish predictions, but make no mistake...the belief that Stanley will be top 3 for RoY is not one of them. I've watched most of the other lotto picks. On summer league through preseason as of right now, Stanley's been the most impressive rookie by far.

Re: Stanley Johnson Poll
Rookie of the Year and best career could be entirely different things.
I still think SJ is going to be our 6th man, which is fine, but he'll be hard-pressed to get 30 mpg that way (it's possible, just harder). Some other guys are likely to get more minutes, and thus more numbers. Towns will start and is extremely talented, Okafor will start and is talented on offense, Mudiay will start and have the ball in his hands a lot, etc. Top 3 in ROY would be nice, but it's not guaranteed.
Now for career, I don't see anyone in this draft that's showing more than Stanley. I'd still trade him for Towns, but that's it, and really I probably wouldn't because I'm already attached (I just should). We won't know for a while, but it looks like a brilliant pick.
