Is everyone else as delighted with Morris as I am?

Post#1 » by zeebneeb » Fri Oct 30, 2015 12:26 am

So when the trade went down we Piston fans heard nothing but horrible things about Marcus mostly from Phoenix fans and some from just about everyone on Realgm. The media didn't think much of it and it admittedly made me a bit nervous.

Well, after having seen him in preseason (especially that tech. We Piston fans love that crap) and now two games in, this guy can fat out ball. To me he's what I hoped we were getting in Josh Smith (I'm sorry Marcus for even putting his name in this thread) and his overall offensive arsenal is nothing short of shocking to me. I've seen him get into the post and work that sucker exactly like Rasheed, (makes sense now knowing how much he hangs out with him) bomb threes, run the floor and dunk, the ability to create space and get his own shot and when we needed a buckets in the worst way he delivered out of the post with the shot clock all but gone.

WOW.

I had no idea that we were getting a player with a complete offensive game, and he can play both the small, and the damn power forward position. Now what truly has shocked me is his defensive intensity, and rebounding skills. Who knew he would get down and dirty and body up like he has? He is passionate on the defensive end of the floor, something we have been missing up front for awhile and it's starting to rub off on Andre.

If he continues to play like this I'll be a very happy Detroit Piston fan. Great trade Stan!

I'll say so far so good, but I'm still very cautious.
It's still very early and we've won 2 in a row. If we hit a losing streak then we'll see his true colors.

I didn't think he can ball the way he has. He's a baller. Talented like Sheed. He's not as tall but the guy can make the shot when you sorely need it. He actually deserves the starting role. Knowing Johnson, you'll see him step up next game. Last game he actually played really well but missed some layups. This team is too exciting. I think the offense will spark up as soon as Jackson decides to be more aggressive. He's got a killer studder step he can utilize in all sorts of ways. Knowing he can float the ball inside the way he has, teams are looking for that. He needs to start incorporating a pass to Drummond through opponents and above them. He did it a lot last season, I haven't seen it yet this season.

Too early really. I'm cautiously optimistic, but fear he's doing everything right because he sees it as the best chance to get Markeiff here with him.

I would say surprised. Seems most here weren't that delighted to obtain him initially. I had a feeling he would fit this team well though because of his blue collar style of play.

I'm ecstatic. We gave up nothing for him and he's already showing the impact he's capable of making. Even if it blows up eventually, we didn't lose out in any way.

He's about what I expected. What we haven't seen that I expected yet is for the games where he shoots a lot and doesn't make them. Some will call for his head. Hopefully them games don't come to often tho. I would like to see him become more of a set up man, he did have 4 assist the other night, but he just seems like he can become a damn good player. Has all the tools to Board, play D, Pass, Shoot, and Handle. Will be nice to see how everything unfolds

Really surprised. I wasn't expecting too much from him but in the past 2 games he delivered. I guess playing without his brother helps.

And lol on Stanley, Bullock and Dinwiddie at Morris' first tech.

I'm very pleased with Morris play so far but man you guys need to relax with these Rasheed Wallace comparisons

Yeah, I'm not on the Sheed comparison bandwagon but I've been very high on him since the day we acquired him. I said it during the summer and still believe it, he's the best small forward we've had in a very, very long time. I think he's the second best offensive player on the team right behind Reggie. It's going to take patience with him though because he's very knew to this role....didn't have this much responsibility and this many opportunities in Phoenix. He'll have good nights, he'll have bad nights and I'm willing to stick with him through it all right now.

He's better than I thought, I can say that safely. The key will be his attitude long term, especially if he isn't starting. If he's truly team-first, he's a major asset at that price.

He's definitely better than I expected. I predicted SJ would easily win the starting job over him but he just flat out won it. He has been consistently good throughout preseason and the first two games, but like many I am cautiously optimistic. If continues to produce like this then he will be yet another HUGE steal by SVG. The guys is locked up for like 4 more years on a measly 5mil/year... That's amazing.

He was one of my top choices for us at #8 in that draft. Really liked him at Kansas, more so than his brother, though Markieff has proved better til now, but both always looked like Piston type players to me. He really does remind me of Sheed how he always seems to get us something good in the post at just the right time we need it. His brother is even better in the post and would love if we could get him somehow too. A Drummond + Morris Twins frontcourt seems like it would be a great fit.

I feel like we would welcome the twins here more than Phoenix. We did have two Wallaces at one point.
