Andre joins Kareem and Wilt as the only players to have 3 20-20 games in first 6 games. And he was a put back dunk away from 4.

http://www.nba.com/video/channels/award_nominees/2015/11/23/201511-kia-potm-nominee-andre-drummond.nba/ <--- Andre is nominated for Eastern Conference player of the month. Guy is averaging almost 18.5 pts 17 rebs 1 asts 2 stls and 1.5 blks a game. Would be a shame for him not to win. Even with other players being on better overall teams.

Drummond also leads all active players with three career 25/25 games; Al Jefferson and Dwight Howard each have two.

[tweet]https://twitter.com/ShotDrJr/status/663787160789786624[/tweet]

http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/111183/drummond-puts-himself-with-the-likes-of-abdul-jabbar-and-the-dream

1 – There is only one other player to have multiple career games of at least 25 points and 25 rebounds in losses: Hakeem Olajuwon.

2 – With three steals tonight, Drummond is the first player with at least 20 points, 20 rebounds and two steals in consecutive games since Kevin Willis in 1991.

3 – Drummond is now one of three active players to have multiple games of 25 points and 25 rebounds, joining Dwight Howard and Al Jefferson.

4 – In the Pistons’ first four games this season, Drummond has multiple 20 point-20 rebound games. From the Elias Sports Bureau: The last player to accomplish that was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975-76. He won the MVP that year.

5 - Drummond is the fifth player over the last 20 seasons with 25 points, 15 defensive rebounds and 10 offensive rebounds in a game since Kevin Love on Nov. 12, 2010.

15 – Drummond has the most rebounds by a Piston in the first four games of the season over the last 30 seasons with 78, 15 more than Bill Laimbeer, who had 63 in 1986.

34 - According to NBA's SportVU player tracking, Drummond was within 3.5 feet of a possible rebound 34 times Tuesday. He grabbed 29 rebounds, a rebounding percentage of 85.3 percent.

78 – Over the last 30 seasons, only Dennis Rodman (83) and Charles Barkley (80) have grabbed more rebounds than Drummond (78) has in the first four games of a season.

I just did some digging, not sure if I missed anyone, but this is a list of guys who averaged 18/18 in a season and listed is the last season they did so.

61-62 Bill Russell
61-62 Elgin Baylor
61-62 Walt Bellamy
61-62 Bob Pettit
68-69 Jerry Lucas
68-69 Nate Thurmond
70-71 Wilt Chamberlain
73-74 Elvin Hayes

So if Drummond keeps this up, he becomes the first player in 42 years to average 18/18. And might I mention, every man listed is in the HoF.

Saw the stat last night that Drummond is the only player since the NBA-ABA merger to have at least 75 points and 75 rebounds in his team's first 4 games.

(Photo was on Twitter, which I'm at work and don't have access to. Sorry.)

Great thread. Reminds me of the Tayshaun is blossoming thread way back. It also reminds me of my Stanley Johnson thread which updating has become brutal with his play as if late. I should have started this instead. Damn.

In any event great thread and great idea. All I know is that I have been mother **** validated 1000% for the past year as I stated clearly over and over ad nauseum that given the time Drummond would put up numbers like these bringing up names such as Wilt Chamberlain and such.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it everyone who didn't agree with me! (Not really. No hard feelings just delighted and relieved Andre has realized who he is) Andre Drummond if he continues his per minute production (no reason to believe he won't as he's done it over the past three years without fail)will be the best statistical center since the 1960's. Amazing and unreal.

Another one I looked up last night:

He has a looooong way to go, but if Dre somehow managed to maintain these averages, he would be the first player since Wilt in 1969 to avg at least 20 pts and 19 rebs in a season. The scary part is that the 20 ppg might be the more difficult of the two for him to maintain. He practically wakes up with 15 rebs nowadays.

With how poor Baynes is playing, it looks like he is going to get the monster minutes this year required to at least have a chance at it too.

To be honest, he's a lot better than I expected and I expected a lot. There's a chance Drummond gets in the MVP conversation just from numbers alone. I might cry the day the crowd chants MVP! to Drummond. That'll be something beautiful to watch.

Drummond is an absolute monster, and a very young one at that. The Dwight Howard comparisons should be thrown out of the window; We are currently watching a player closer to the size and fluidity of Magic Shaquille O'neal.

Figured highlights should go along with this thread

Loved that he was getting great position and attacked quick. The only time a post up should last longer than 3-4 seconds is if he'se got a mismatch of a perimeter player guarding him. The decisiveness plus athleticism managed to get him open looks near the rim whenever they fed him close.

Also love it when he face's up and atttacks because his dribble is quite tight and he is quick for his size. Hopefully they make that a point of mention because he's a good faceup player when utilized and I'd venture to say it's easier to pass out of a face up than when backing someone down ( at least when I played ). He shouldnt be used like Jefferson, he's got the quicks to exploit most C's.

Like Griffin he cant be worried about being the Dream in the post, he can be pretty damn good with a less complex game.

I'm loving seeing these big men dominate so far this year, haven' t really seen them match up vs each other too much yet. Can't wait to see Whiteside vs Drummond.

Yeah it's funny how everyone seemed to react to small ball, getting rid of the center spot in all star games and calling them all forwards, Warriors winning the 'ship, etc.

Will be interesting to see if the pendulum swings back the other way with some of these young centers in the next couple years.

Andre currently has the best offensive rebounding percentage of all time, and is second in total rebound percentage, behind just Dennis Rodman.

As a Pistons fan, I've watched Rodman, Big Ben and now Drummond and tbh, Drummond is the best rebounder of the three. As odd as that is to even think, I believe it to be true. He just has the length, athleticism, instinct to rebound at an alarming rate. Rodman and Ben were better defenders, no doubt, but just purely as a rebounder, Drummond is better. It's crazy.

Whiteside is a beast as well. It will be fun to watch these two battle it out for best center in the East over the coming years.

Whiteside doesn't have near the ceiling as Andre.. Maybe if they were the same age. Even then, doubtful.

Slow that roll. About the defender part. Andre is the best rebounder of three (crazy as hell to say but we all know it's true) but defense takes time and understanding of the game and the players that inhabit that league and all thier tendencies. Drummond has the tools to become the best defender of the three as well so I'm not ready to call that one.

Rebounding though, yeah absolutely. I've been watching basketball for a long, long time and I have never seen a player like Drummond before. This has to of been what it was like to watch Russell or chamberlain play. I've seen moses malone play and while drummond does do the self tip moses was no where near the physical specimen or athlete drummond is.

The league hasn't seen anyone like Drummond since the 1960'S which is absolutely incredible.

You want to know something else absolutely crazy?

Unlike generations of players before him, drummonds production is constant. So if he.played the minutes Walt or Russell played these would be his numbers;

25ppg
24rpg

Those are legendary numbers.

True but he's still pretty damn good right now. His shot blocking and efficiency is off the charts.

I suppose basketball falls into the same category as any other game, you always work to counter the current meta to get ahead. When everyone is big, play small and vice versa. It will be interesting to see how teams balance around there big's to match up as best they can with small ball teams while keeping there strength on the inside.

That's sort of exactly what I just said. Defense wise- there is no contest, strictly rebounding wise- Drummond is better than both, as weird as that is for me to say.

I posted this on the general board too - an article about Andre Drummond's monstrous game and how it proves that we are all merely pixelated spectators living our lives within a video game where our sole purpose is to occasionally come and watch his games to add to the realism for the greater being that plays his gaming console. Ontological stuff.
