We can't wait 50+ days for Jennings...

Post#1 » by Kilo » Wed Nov 4, 2015 1:18 pm

What options are out there for us? Problem being we don't have much to trade that could be available - and I don't want to trade our first rounder right now either for what would be a back-up/3rd string PG. But over that stretch we're going to play 25 or so games - we CAN'T try to ride it out with Blake and Dinwiddie.

Could we trade Dinwiddie for a future second rounder even at this point? To open up a roster spot to bring in a free agent point guard? Is there any free agent point guard worth making a move for or are we figuratively screwed?

We should of grabbed Toney Douglas before he was signed, he is playing great for the Pelicans.
Ugh Nate Robinson..? I despise him but he can score points unlike our bench.

Will Bynum lol? Who I also dislike because he always tried to get his and wasn't a great PG.. but it's a temporary band-aid.

John Lucas..

Luke Ridnour

Ben Gordon is available for a backup SG

Painful as it is we might just have to stick it out.

We don't have assets to trade. The really scary thought is the possibility of Jennings not being effective when he comes back, or being later than Christmas in coming back, or getting reinjured.

He's hardly a guarantee. We're hurting for backup wings too. I'm sure others saw how ineffective Johnson and Bullock were yesterday as well. Our bench is hot garbage.

Patience. The bench guys struggled but Reggie and Stanley played well in the preseason, maybe Dinwiddie gets another chance. Maybe Morris plays more with the bench guys and takes off the scoring burden for the 2nd unit. SVG will find a way.

Can't afford patience. We need to be a play-off team this season, and games given away now count just as much as games late in the season. When can we trade Anthony's contract? With Dre and Baynes he's never going to play here anyways, and probably could find a high energy dirty work third string caliber NBA center in the D-League easier than getting a rotation caliber point guard there.

i would get rid of baynes before i trade anthony, baynes and meeks need to go for one legit back-up big, both contracts come out to 11 mill or so, i would take roy hibbert garbage self for that, besides they are going to want to be bad to keep there pick this year which is only top 3 protected.

How is Steve Blake still in the NBA? Other teams backup pgs make him look like Delly trying to get the ball up the court against Igoudala/Klay/Curry. His 3 point shot looks like a 6th grader who made one 3 in practice one time. There's no what there's not guys in the D League who can play circles around him.

I support cutting or trading Steve Blake at this point. I cant believe i'm saying that because I loved him his first game back. He has been hot garbage 4 games in a row now. Yeah it stings because we brought him in via trade and we are paying his overpriced contract. But when did that ever stop SVG? (ex. Josh Smith). Next guy up!

This is what we should do

keep Dinwiddie, he's really underrated on here, he's like one of the best backup pg in the league. He just needs better teammates coming off the bench with him

Sign Austin Daye
Sign Kim English
Sign Darko Milicic

Trade Aron Baynes, Jennings, and SJ for Charlie Villanueva and a second round pick

Our second unit now:
PG: Dinwiddie
SG: Kim English
SF: Austin Daye
PF: Charlie Villanueva
C: Darko Milicic

problem solved, we now have one of the best benches in the league.

The overreactions on this board have been a little embarrassing but the level of expectations has gone up as well.

I'm actually going to side with Kilo on this one though. I can't remember the last time a Piston bench (hell any bench for that matter) has had this large of a discrepancy with the starters. Our starting unit is good. Damn good. Our bench is a horror show the likes of which should be a war crime. It has no playmaker just complimentary pieces that go around a playmaker. Jennings will be amazing but with what we know now, why not make some minor moves and bulk it up?

I also agree that we can't wait. It's obvious it needs bolstering. It's got good pieces that's not the problem. It needs it's own bench leader/playmaker to compliment Jennings when he comes back. Now here's a scary thought;

What if Jennings is not the same player when he comes back?

Better to fix it now before it becomes a major disaster. The Pistons are making the playoffs thus year and will win alot of games. That means the bench, if we have any hope of making any noise in the playoffs has to be reliable. They don't need to score 40 a game but they need to contribute more then turnovers and 2 points.

This right now is the most disorganized and poorly made up bench I have ever seen. It needs work, and it needs it now.

The only way to upgrade the bench is to trade starter. Moving our PF for bench depth seems to be the only play.

Or learn to be patient and wait for Blake to get healthy, Dinwiddie to grow up and Jennings to get healthy.

I honestly think we just need better integration of the bench, as in better rotations. There should never be a scenario in which we empty the bench (as configured). We don't have the luxury of a self starting bench as these guys don't know how to move without the ball.

Bringing in blake and bullock? Cool. Slide mook to the 4 and sub ersan out

Bringing out drummond and reggie? Cool, Get a rim protector in Joel out there with Ersan as the stretch 4

This loss was primarily SVG's fault, but it's cool. We all expected to have a worse record at this point. No one is perfect, and I'm sure he learned he can't rely on emptying the bench if he wants to maintain any offensive momentum.
