Brandon Jennings is the Key to Success this Season

Post#1 » by need4detroit » Thu Nov 5, 2015 4:18 pm

Andre Drummond is a complete monster, and will be the foundation of a franchise for years to come, but at the end of the game you need a player who can hit tough shots. Currently the roster has one of those players: Brandon Jennings. At the end of the game, I want the ball in his hands. Currently Detroit's starters are carrying too much of the load and eventually their legs are going to give if they are played at the current rate. Jennings comeback will be instrumental in their success if this is to happen, and Johnson and he will form a formidable tandem off the bench.

The team should not trade a player who one could even make the argument is their most talented. Players of Jennings talent don't grow on trees, and the team should do everything they can to keep him in Detroit for the remainder of his career.

Who even knows how good he will be now first off. Im confident he will still be our best bench player but its pretty iffy on how you recover from that injury. Its a bad one and has slowed down lots of careers. But maybe that will make him accept a 6th man role now and resign for a reasonable price.

True but if anyone is to recover from the injury, it's a workhorse like Jennings.

Everyone's coming up with "solutions", and I'm just shaking my head as we have a 75% winning percentage.

Our bench getting beat 43-2 kind of killed that momentum..

i would agree, but i'd like to give Dinwiddie a legit shot. Not sure BJ comes off that injury the same. Also i think KCP's taking a bigger step would be key to success. Right now Morris is the only player that can go out and get his, KCP would be the next most likely candidate as you can't trust a rookie.

Not exactly a huge sample size.

I have more faith in Stanley developing into a productive player than BJ being our savior.

We had a bad game. It happens. Especially with young teams. We will have more bad games. We'll also have games where we look like we can go toe to toe with the big dogs. No need to overreact to either.

I agree, even if jennings comes back at 50% athletic,he still will be able to run an offense and shoot,he also will bring his brand of swag to that second unit.I also think once he comes back, johnson and bullock will have someone to feed off of and there games will look better for it.

Despite our "75% winning percentage", I've been quite disappointed by reggie so far.
Im counting down the days for Jennings to return. we're not going to win many games with reggie playing with blinders on. H

Reggie's doing too much and gets caught trying to carry his team which he's not that player anyways. I don't blame him too much though, our bench has been that awful.

Even our workhorse KCP looks dead out there from playing so much since our bench is trash. I believe he's leading our team in minutes played besides Dre.

This.

This team is going to have up and downs throughout the season, some games we will look really good and other games we will look really bad. This is a young team that will have chemistry issues and also have a lack of experience, it's to be expected from a young team.

and while we don't have the best bench in the league, it's very unlikely that the bench will only avg 2 points in the upcoming games. They had a bad game, it happens.

So can we please calm down with the overreactions.

Reggie has looked alright to me. He is making some silly turnovers but some are from passes he made last season like the rap around passes in the paint. Plus he has been pretty good on defense so far maybe that's affecting him on the offensive side cause he is definitely missing so gimmies in the paint.

The biggest problems is the bench and the lack of movement on offense. To many times did I see everyone standing around watch Reggie or Morris try and make a play.

I like Reggie better, His ability to get to the rim is better then Jennings 3s.

There are times where Jennings looks like a poor mans Curry, which is kind of what this team needs to spark life when the offense dies. Reggie doesn't really have that shooter's mentality nor does anyone else beside maybe KCP's chuckathon last year against the Hawks when we were down by like 20 and almost came back.

Then again, I value shooting a LOT more than others on here.

Get real, people!
We have 7 new players this year.
We have 6 players who have only had one season here.
And you are already tragically disappointed because our backups haven't come together yet .
RJ has had very good games.
Baines, Blake, and Bullock have had some good games.
Do you really believe all the parts can become a smooth working machine this quickly?
I am happy with the progress SVG has made and very willing to watch the continued progress I expect.
Be patient, folks.

I'm excited for Jennings to come back, I'm not expecting him to come back to 100% of what he was last year though. The thought of having quality PG play at all times is what excites me.

My main concern with Jennings is that if he comes back and is noticeably less athletic, will he resort to shooting those off-balance midrange shots which earned him the reputation of being a chucker? If he loses a step and can't penetrate fully he'll be stuck in that ugly area...

If Jennings can come back and be productive it also gives SVG flexibility with lineups, he can play either Jennings or Reggie depending on which matchup he likes better.
