What does Banes bring?

Post#1 » by bardobeing » Thu Nov 12, 2015 8:44 pm

Is anyone else as underwhelmed by Banes as I am? I think we'd be better off giving his minutes to Joel Anthony. I seem to recall being satisfied with Joel's role when Monroe sat late last season.

I'm starting to think he's not a C. He just has no presence in the paint at either end. You might be onto something with Anthony. At least he is a presence on defense. He gives nothing on offense but neither does Baynes right now.

I think our guys are starting to wear down a bit defensively and being able to add another plus defender to the mix, who is fresh, could be just what we need right now. If we are going to be a team that wins with defense/hustle, might as well go all in. Baynes just isn't getting it done in those departments and contributes next to nothing in any other part of the game.

He was supposed to be a good jumpshooter; perhaps he is better suited as a PF.

He is so slow, no way he can play PF imo. I think he has only shot like 2 jumpshots all year. They try to feed him in the post all the time. WHY? If he supposedly can shoot mid range give him the ball around the top of the FT line, see if he can creat anything. Wouldn't mind seeing Joel a little either tho

A guy who soaks up fouls and is probably untradable for a couple seasons.

the way I see it hes basically our enforcer. it would be nice to get more out of him considering what hes making, but this team has lacked toughness for a long time. teams have been pushing us around and punking us for years, its nice to finally have a guy on the team whos not afraid to push back. but again 7 million a year is a pretty steep price if he doesnt get his s¿&# together on the court.

You don't see it now but only because our backup PG sucks. Once Jennings comes back he's going to add a dynamic to the bench. ONE THING IS FOR SURE, he'll take care of the ball and the rhythm. The next thing is he will make plays for Bullock which will get another shooter into the rotation. The next thing is he'll give space for Johnson to work. Then comes Baynes who will excel from good ball movement provided by Jennings. These are what PGs do in SVG's system.

The worst thing that can happen is we keep him for the rest of the year, then there's only 2 years on his contract left (last being player option which is the only thing that bothered me). It's not a big deal. He's tradable. Every team needs a big man and it's not like he can't play. He's not bad

Exactly. With the way posts have been going around here in the last couple of days, you would think we reverted back 2-3 years. We have no bench,no pg that can run or score effectively,no real scoring option, and baynes just looks meh out there. For what we have to work with,I dont know how some are so doom and gloom.Once jennings/meeks get back,we will look 100% better. For now,we are basicly reling on our starters all game.Baynes was effective for SA off the bench and did his job, dosent suprise me at all that hes playing the way he is.

yea i said it in a game thread that baynes is useless and posters said he was playing fine...he's like a 3rd center u bring in to take fouls not a secondary center for when drummond sits. we need someone who's gonna play both ends of the floor. marreese speights would be excellent on this team.

Hated the signing when it happened, still do. He's just not very talented, plain and simple...even by back up standards.

I haven't been impressed with Baynes either. I don't know if its because of his injury but he has zero hops and it doesn't help that he is a little short for center. All he can really do well is set a screen...not really what you want out of 6+ Mil a year. Honestly, he looks like a vets minimum type player.

I think this board might be putting too much stock in the impact Jennings will have upon his return. I hope he does as much as the next guy but I don't know how realistic it is that Jennings will be this bench savior. Everybody was saying the same thing about Meeks last year and while he helped a bit, he wasn't as great as we made him out to be.

Exactly! Jennings won't be the same player he was pre-injury. It may take over a full season for him to get back to that level of play.

I can't remember a player in the last 20 years who came off an achilles rupture and came back half-way decent that weren't superstars. I will bet all of you, Jennings will not look good out there. He's out of shape and hasn't seen the court in a long time.

Also, Baynes is worthless. He truly is, I die a little inside whenever he posts up and throws up a wild shot. I wish we had somehow gotten Tiago instead as our de factor backup big, at least he offers an underrated defensive presence and plays hard. Pop absolutely loved him, that's enough of an endorsement.

You guys play a completely different style than us. Baynes was good at rebounding, being a brute, and cherrypicking.

Toward the end of his tenure he started to add range. But you also have to take into account that he was playing next to a lot better passers who could get it to him at the right times. I think a more developed Stanley will be his biggest key to success.

He'll be a good piece against Cavs, Hawks, and the west
