Al Horford was represented by Arn Tellem...

Just leaving this tidbit here -
Horford had been represented by Arn Tellem at Wasserman for much of his career. He briefly left the agency when Tellem joined the front office of the Detroit Pistons.
Horford will be a free agent this offseason.
“It’s just a personal decision,” Horford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I just felt more comfortable being with Wasserman.”

We won't have the cap space to get Al unless we let go of some players, as we're tentatively scheduled to have around $10-11 million in cap space.
Outside of that, I could see Horford leaving Atlanta. They haven't had a ton of success in the playoffs and seem to have a low ceiling. Bringing him here to play PF next to Drummond would make one hell of a front court. We'd lose some shooting range, but he's better than Ersan in every other aspect of the game.

The guy can also play backup center as a almost true stretch 5 in some situations. He'd be an immense upgrade for our frontcourt in many facets.

We turn down PO on Ilyasova and Anthony, let Jennings, Tolliver, Anthony walk we have around 60M in contracts on the books.
Reggie Jackson
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope|Jodie Meeks|Darrun Hilliard
Mook Morris|Stanley Johnson
Al Horford|Mook Morris
Andre Drummond|Aron Baynes
We still have a first round pick in there, and then add a couple vets on vets minimum deals (Tolliver back?) which allows us to go over cap and boom.

Biggest thing against that happening is Al Horford's wife living in Miami. I'm not sure is close enough to work for us. Al has become really good on his shot from outside though. Also, would likely take $80 million over 4 years to get Al here.

Al is from the islands as well, so likes the warm, but did live in Michigan in his teens and I believe still has family here. I'd pay him $80M over four to get him here. This is where Mook on such a small deal and Stanley on a rookie deal are of great benefit.
Depends on who is looking for a starting PF with money to spend. We'd be a long shot, but Tellem would have a great relationship with him to at least get us an honest look here.
Orlando would be a big threat for him, if he leaves ATL. Could offer a compelling S&T package as well as ATL signed Harris to an offer sheet last off-season or was very close to (I can't recall specifics), and have abundance of young wings as well.

If the price is right I'd probably rather have Ryan Anderson than Horford.
Al is obviously a better player overall, but Anderson is a MUCH better fit in the offense. Ryan is also a couple years younger, Al will be 30 at the start of next season.

I'm leaning towards this as well. Take a shot at Horford but don't waste to much time. I would quickly turn our attention to guys like Anderson or Motiejunas.

IDK the more I watch Anderson and look at his stats he is terrible on defense. Might not be the right move to go after him.

He doesn't play Defense and I'm not willing to pay him anything ridiculous but he would be a amazing fit and

Ryan Anderson is overrated. He is the same caliber stretch 4 as Ersan in my opinion. Remember he wasn't on that Finals team with Stan. He was on their lesser teams after that because he isn't a championship starter. He's a guy you get to get you to the next level, like Cliff Robinson, but we already got that player in Ersan. If we are going to change that position it needs to be a clear upgrade otherwise better off picking up Ersan's 8m option for 1 more year. Horford would be that upgrade.
What is the rules on team options? Could we decline his option for capspace to sign Horford and then go over the cap to resign Ersan to a new deal, being one of our own players? I know LeBron does that every year with player options, but do team options work the same?
He would be a great backup/rotation guy to have around if we could circumvent the cap and have both he and Horford. Rather than have to let a quality asset walk just for capspace.

He a more dynamic scorer then Ersan.

No we turn down team option on Ersan he becomes a UFA, but we'd still have a cap hold I believe of around $10M, so we'd have to renounce that in order to free up the money needed to sign Al. And renouncing his right means we lose his Bird Right and can't go over the cap to re-sign him.

Correct.
Using our cap space to its fullest possible extent means letting go of Jennings, Ilyasova, etc.

I have no problems dropping Ily and most of the other guys, but I still wanna retain Jennings (pending him not sucking). Unfortunately his cap hold will be for about $12.5 mil and if he does play well enough for us to wanna resign him he may have opportunities to sign else where for a starting gig. I wouldn't give up on him for a long-shot at Horford, but if we had essentially had a contract worked out and just needed to clear the space then Jennings gets the boot.

hes said he prefers to play the power forward spot, and his game is not that of a typical center(ala greg monroe). so he may play center but he doesnt have to play there. hes simply a front court player

I disagree. This is what gets us stuck on a treadmill. Horford would be the final piece to this team becoming a contender so if you can get him at whatever cost then we absolutely should.
