Guys won't do it out of looking silly. But you sure look silly making 38% shooting it normal

What if he misses underhanded? He'd look even more silly out there. I think that's why most woeful FT shooters don't attempt underhanded, since they fear the way it looks but on top of that, if they miss, they'd look even more stupid.

But I understand this argument, but I just believe that Dre should be locked inside a gym by himself and figure out shooting by himself much like other shooters have in the past.

I want him to try it too. There is a C at Louisville who was 47% FT last year and switched is now 57%.

Stan should hire Rick Barry to teach Dre how to do it the right way.

If he could become a good FT shooter, it wouldn't just stop the intentional fouling, but could make him into a 25 ppg scorer and basically unstoppable.

Dre is one of the worst FT shooter I have ever seen, anything he can do to potentially help shoot better he should. Even if its not underhand try a different form altogether cause his current form is bad and is one factor to his horrid shooting the other is confidence. I don't expect him to shoot great or even good from their but at least 50% Dre is shooting 38% that is unacceptable.

47% to 57% isn't enough of an improvement to do it IMO. It will be roundly mocked and ridiculed and might effect his confidence in other areas on the court - so I'd want at least an 80% FTPCT in order to make it worth ones while.

I think he needs to get his mind off it and just shoot the damn ball. He psychs himself out and only makes it worse. Just clear his mind - thing about whatever, say the alphabet backwards or memorize and recite lingerie ads or something.

He should already be embarrassed shooting 38% with a orthodox form.

Or just go up there and shoot it right away. Stop with the whole routine. Just let it fly the second after the ref hands him the ball. Too much brain activity goin on

His form isn't that orthodox, he looks unsure of how to shoot it the moment he brings it up to eye level.

Hell, the fact that he has that momentary pause before he releases is largely why he's a bad FT shooter. It's not a fluid motion at all, it looks woefully mechanical, like a Rube Goldberg machine.

Look at great FT shooters in the past (Durant, Nash, Ray Allen), they all have fluid motions and great arc on their shots. Dre's look weak and unsure.

What's surprising is, Hopla has made an immense difference to KCP, the guy that I least expected to improve this year on that front. Make KCP and Dre shoot together in a locked down gym.

I think Hopla has been a detriment. I think at this level, most guys have their own shots for better or worse. Leave them be, or let them work with a private shot coach. A team wide approach - one size doesn't fit all.

I don't think so Hopla said his isn't changing guys shots just tweaking you can tell cause his form looks the same. I highly doubt he works with them all at the same time classroom style.

Yeah, there's some misplaced priorities going on if in fact Drummond would lose more confidence hitting a higher clip of underhanded free throws as opposed to hitting 37% of regular form free throws. If dousing himself in rainbow glitter and wearing a tiara that read "princess brat" made him a better ballplayer, I'd expect him to do it. That's being a professional.

You can expect him to do it all you want, but get used to disappointment. There is absolutely no use in pining for something that will never happen.

Want him to hire his own shooting coach? Fine. Expect him to spend more time practicing shots? Fine. Want him to catch and shoot immediately or take another step or two behind the line? Fine. I'm all for any realistic approach that may yield tangible results. But enough with this under-handed crap.

It doesn't matter how much sense you think it makes, if the chances of it actually happening are virtually non-existent then continuing to bang that drum is silly. It's like saying we should trade Illy for Durant. Sure, great idea. Love it. Lemme go start a few threads and bring it up repeatedly because in my fantasy-world it's the perfect solution.

you play any sport, when a coach changes your technique, there is always a adjustment period. Adjusting a shot isn't as simple as , "you stop doing this and BABOOOM mothaf*'n Klay Thompson". It typically gets worst before it gets better. We hired hoopla less than 6 months ago. Easy there Tom Gore

I think at this level, most guys have their own shots for better or worse. Leave them be,

so don't improve? ..............no

let them work with a private shot coach.

which is exactly what hoopla is. We literally hired the SVG of shooting coaches and your mad because in 5 months nobodies steph curry and dre's still sh*. Each player literally has hoopla at their disposal.

as stated before, they have practices for shooting but each player has hoopla at their disposal

I'm not quite sure why people assume he would automatically shoot better if he shot underhand.

You'd have to try real hard to be worse than 37%. I would think you could shoot it backwards better

I don't think shooting free throws is as simple as it's made out to be. It requires a certain combination of fine motor skills and large muscle control. NBA players are great athletes, so most have this within their abilities. But there are aberrations. Like a handful of major league baseball players can't hit very well, there are some that simply don't have it in their DNA. Take a hard working, mentally tough guy like Bruce Bowen - he simply wasn't a good one and I don't think he was able to become one.
