SVG praises Marcus Morris: 'I like coaching him'

"He's a highly professional guy, gets his work done every day," Van Gundy said before the Pistons hosted the Celtics on Saturday night. "I really like him. I like coaching him, I like the way he plays, he competes, and I think he's going to continue to get better."
Morris hasn't shot the ball particularly well — 42.2% from the field, 35% from three, both numbers slightly below his career averages — but his versatile game has helped solidify one of the league's most productive starting units.
Among 95 power forwards, the fifth-year NBA veteran is 24th in real plus-minus, which estimates on-court impact on team performance, taking into account teammates, opponents and additional factors.http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2015/12/26/detroit-pistons-stan-van-gundy-marcus-morris/77933670/

Didn't seem like a shock to me. Marcus has been pretty solid. He's gotten a few techs, but it's mostly been understandable. Generally plays good team ball and does quite a few things fairly well.

I did wonder why they were comparing him to PFs though, as he's been pretty much been playing SF for Detroit.

our PF and SF spots are effectively interchangable depending on offensive set. Offensively Marcus has played like a traditional power forward

I'm glad Mook has worked out well for the Stones. As the season wears on and the guys get a better handle on sharing the rock, I think Mook will be even better for us.

He really does remind me of Sheed. The way he plays, his attitude, Sheed was more naturally gifted but they are both team oriented guys who are hated on and yet excel with the Pistons. It's ironic that SVG loves him so much since he hated Sheed so much.

SVG would have loved Sheed if he coached him.

He's setting the table for us to land Markieff. If this trade happens soon I'm gonna run out and get 2k16 lol.
Please lord take mercy on our lowly team... We ask for so little. Our lions are mediocre and get jobbed by the refs in close games. Our Pistons are a young team that is no where near becoming a contender. All we ask is that you give us the other Morris twin, and he's not even that great... oh please lord make this happen for us.

Ya, I agree. Lets get him. He'll add to our toughness and make me feel like we're the Bad Boys Part 2
As long as we don't waste our cap space doin it.
Meeks Bullock and 2nd rounder

Marcus is a fine player for us - and his locked in 4 year contract at only $5 million per season is fantastic for us. Marcus might be the best value contract in the NBA. I suppose that means he's a great trade chip if the perfect deal comes around. But, I think he'll be extremely valuable as a low cost core piece of the Pistons, pretty much for the life of his contract.
He'll play the 3 and the 4 for us for years, and will pair great with SJ, and, I suspect with KCP. We'll eventually add an upgrade at PF, turning Morris or SJ into a great 6th man type for us.
