johnson is one of the worst. we drated this guy for his defense. jakson has 7 foot wingspan but can brother his man. drummond is average.

Yeah I'm not so sure about that lol, These kinda stats are fun and Tolliver hasn't necessarily been a bad defender or anything but Cmon now. Tolliver also has a lot more experience then someone like a 19 year old rookie. I think watching one game you can see this Johnson will spank his ass on this side of the ball within a year or two.

Tolliver plays against a teams' worst player usually.

Tolliver has pretty good help defense since he used be the Warriors' center when they were godawful.
But that's about it, and he goes against the bench units who can't score properly regardless.
I know you guys love/abuse FG% and opp FG%, but this is ridiculous.

That same list also has Aaron freaking Brooks with a net -10% in FG differential against opponents in advanced statistics.
Yeah, some of you abuse this system to death not utilizing certain context.

actually some little guards are very pesky defenders

Then you're welcome to post that fact over on to the Bulls' board. I think they might ban you for being serious that Brooks can defend anything more than an automated KIVA drone.
I respect you pistonr, but this is very wrong.

This assertion clearly demonstrates the kind of situations that lead to the origin of the old saw "lies, damn lies, and statistics."

maybe I should consider shoot attemps per game. if somebody only defends 6 shoots, percentage can be misleading

Not finger pointing pistonr, but this forum in general has a very hard time when to actually
utilize statistics in context. If it was on any other general NBA forums, they would get downvoted and called out. No one does it here.
Then again, this place is generally an echo chamber of sorts anyways. We're either circlejerking with useless facts and numbers or yelling at a wall to make it into something else.

this is more accurate. this ranks players who defends 7 or more shoots per game.
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?CF=GP*GE*15|D_FGA*GE*7&Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&sort=PCT_PLUSMINUS&dir=-1lebron is the best but he is a litle bit lazy. he only defends 7.8 shoots per game. draymond green 16.8 shoots per game.

Another great example of stats not telling the whole story, or even part of it really

That seems pretty inaccurate as well seeing as it has Redick and Snell in the top 5 ahead of Kawhi Leonard

I think Tolliver is a good defender and thats probably why he closes out games unlike Ersan. But he isn't our best defender imo cause he doesn't defend the best guy playing most of the time.
Defensive stats suck imo, Drummond has a 94 drtg and is top 3 in DRPM for C's. Drummond is nowhere near close to being that good on defense. At the end of the day for defense the eye test is the best.

Defense is all effort. Check out how KCP mans his opponent. Great lateral movement. Johnson can take that leap but I think he's focusing too much on offense because that's where he's struggling at times and he wants to contribute. Knowing SVG and what he's said before, he wants Johnson to rebound and defend and probably sit in the corner for the 3. He'll get better. I think he needs to lose weight. He's built like a running back

Tolliver is a good defender and underrated on that end, but Morris is really our best defender.
Overall though we don't have a lot of great individual defenders, which is why I don't agree with trying to build this into a team that wins with defense. Most of our best players strengths are on offense. We have the personnel to be a good team defense that can get stops when they need to, but overall this should be a team built around offense based on personnel.
We are 14-2 when scoring 100 or more. 4-14 when scoring under 100. We are 1-9 when scoring 92 or less (only win coming in the 2nd game vs UTAH). That should say loud and clear that this team isn't built to win low scoring defensive battles. Teams that are built for that want to get into those type of games because that is when they have their most success. We are at our worst in those games.
That isn't a bad thing. That just isn't how this team is built. For whatever reason the guy who built it doesn't seem to realize it, as all he talks about is defense and is happier after games like last night than when we win scoring +100. I don't know what he wants to get into these defensive struggles for when we always come out on the wrong end, and are so successful when we play more of an uptempo offensive style.
