Meeks suffers recovery setback - shutting down all physical activity on foot

The Detroit Pistons guard's broken right foot is not healed and he must stop practicing, as well as much of his running and other activities, he said Monday.
"I can shoot," Meeks said of his new limitations.
Meeks said the foot was sore last week, after he resumed practice eight days ago. He learned Monday in a consultation with the surgeon who operated on him, Dr. Martin O'Malley, that the broken right fifth metatarsal has not healed.
The Pistons hoped to have Meeks back before next week's All-Star break, but he said before Monday night's game against the Brooklyn Nets that he will not resume practicing until the foot is healed.
Probably done for the year at this point. Really limits our trade options as well.

Gonna have to replace him. He hasnt been healthy since signing here and hes going to be in the last year of his deal next season anyways. Just one of those unlucky signings

How do we replace him this season though? Or just keep going with Stan Lee and Darrun?

I guess his surgeon was too busy fruitlessly pursuing the Democratic nomination.

I guess everyone was right about this signing, WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY, he's hardly ever healthy and no matter what you say, after "PAYING" these guys after career years, rarely does it work out well for a team in FA.

Meeks was such a flop. I was excited when svg got him, but he's just been injured the entire time. You can't trade him and theres no way of replacing him without giving up too much, so just let Stanley, hilliard and Reggie cover the back up 2for now. We've had to do that the whole time anyway. At least Jennings is back.

SVG needs to keep feeding Hilliard spot minutes at SG each game. We need him to progress faster now that Meeks is likely done. It might be the homer in me, but I think Hilliard is going to be a good two way player in this league and possible starting quality someday. He passes the eye test unlike a Dinwiddie.

The "What a waste" camp eventually became right. Probably in the worst way though.
Here's to him coming back and continuing his career somehow, but foot injuries like Jones fractures are very tricky if not done right. It's the reason Durant was extremely picky with his injury a season ago.

It's unfortunate. I guess you can call him a flop, but I think there are two kinds - one where the player is injured and didn't get a chance to perform, and the other is where the player just sucks and we over estimated his potential. It's a bummer, but he was never healthy, but if he had been, I'm sure he was a starter-worthy SG. Oh well, sh-t happens. He's done for the year. We'll see how it goes next year. I'm sure he will work his ass of fin the offseason and come back strong. Of course now he is clearly a backup on this team - he lost his chance to shine as a starter.

I would like to see Hilliard getting more minutes, he has show some potential a few times when hes gotten playing time.

Man, I was just wondering if he was getting close to taking the court again, hoping he could add some more scoring off the bench. Sounds like he might be done for the year, since he'll likely not be in game shape even if he's cleared late in the season. Damn shame.

Can we apply for an injury excemption for Meeks? Where we get 1/2 of his contract to use this open market.

Pretty disappointing he's been injured for this long. It really sucks but that's on SVG. Meeks was injured before we got him and he flourished under Dantoni's offense. Even the 76ers started scoring like never before.

That's a pretty weak list if I ever saw one.
Can't complain about cheap though.

According to this I don't think so -
(4) Disabled Player Exception. A team may replace a player who suffers a season-ending injury with one player making up to 50% of the injured player’s current salary, up to a maximum of the average player salary. The Disabled Player Exception is available in the following circumstances:
(a) If the player is injured between July 1 and November 30 and is determined to be out for that season, the team has 45 days to use the Exception; or
(b) If the player is injured between December 1 and June 30 and is determined to be out for the subsequent season, the team has until the following October 1 to use the Exception.
He would have fallen under (a) if he was deemed lost for the season at the time. But we expected him back. Now that he could be gone the ROS doesn't seem to matter - and would fall under (b) only if he was to miss next season, which isn't the case. Besides he could still be back this season physically, though probably too late to be much of a factor as he'd have to work himself into playing shape late in the season.

Nothing really there. I'd rather see what Hillard can give us, hell I'd rather give Bullock another look as well.

It's past the deadline for the disabled player exemption. Bobby Marks was tweeting about it a few weeks ago (don't remember what team he was specifically referencing though).

Pretty much. The last three names on the list are the only ones I would want to see anything given up for. And by anything, I basically mean nothing like Bullock's contract.

it's a shame he's been injured/not 100% the whole time he's been in Detroit. by all accounts he was improving overall before we signed him and really could have provided some borderline-elite shooting off the bench.
I hope we stick with our current rotation and mix in hilliard if SVG feels he can contribute. I don't really see the need to bring in a low-level SG that really wouldn't provide much more than hilliard anyways.

Man, I would have loved to have signed Gerald Green instead of this guy.
