Jennings for Thad Young deal being discussed.

Brandon Jennings could very well end up in Brooklyn two weeks from now in a trade that would send Thaddeus Young to the Detroit Pistons, sources tell SheridanHoops.com.

There are several teams looking to acquire Jennings, who has been a starter most of his career but is currently stuck behind Reggie Jackson on Detroit’s depth chart. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Brooklyn is one of the teams with the biggest need at point guard after losing Jarrett Jack for the season to a knee injury. The Nets are willing to give Jennings a long-term contract as they begin the process of rebuilding following the reign of error directed by Billy King.

The Nets may need to give the Pistons an additional player, the source said, adding that the back end of the trade would be where the Nets could outbid another team. Detroit has Steve Blake to plug in behind Jackson in the playoffs, but Blake is on an expiring contract. Shane Larkin, who has a $1.5 million player option for next season, could be added to the trade.

Or Brooklyn could throw in Jack, who would serve as Jackson’s backup next season if the Pistons picked up his $6.3 million team option. Detroit would have to add additional salary to make such a deal work, but they have two expendable big contracts in Jodie Meeks and Reggie Bullock.

The trade talks were disclosed by a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity. The source said numerous other teams were also pursuing Jennings.

Tempting as it sounds (if it is even true), this feels too Josh Smith like. Plus Jack is coming off an injury, we don't know the effects of that long term on his playing style.

Average defender + good midrange/post game. Kind of a poor mans Markieff.

15 ppg & 9 rpg on 51% FG

45% FG from 15'-19'

49% FG from the post

He'd be ok, but wouldn't shoot three's. He'd kinda be like J Smith, but not a idiot

Man I've been selling this dude pretty short apparently. Always thought he was a good guy with a good attitude, just never really wanted him on my team. But now my eyebrows are raised.

As long as this rumor wasn't started by Jennings's agent, this is actually good news. If other teams are interested in him, maybe we can get a good asset in return.

If we get Larkin in the deal, I'd make the deal right away. Young can start and defend the PF position. He's another hustler that gets his points and puts in energy. It doesn't matter if he starts or comes off the bench. Larkin is a great back up PG. He's Augustine 2.0. He'd be great with Baynes. I like this trade.

Thing people don't understand is there are very few teams that need a starting PG. The Nets are one of those teams and you take a deal like this. Larkin is good and Young is very solid.

A small insight on Young from Nets fans last month. Seems to fit what the numbers say too. But Young would still be an upgrade defensively and a much better rebounder than anybody the Pistons have playing there right now, which is an underrated need in my opinion.

On the other hand Van Gundy and Bower would have to be pretty sure about not going after any of the bigger free agents this summer if they made this move. Young's on the books for a bit over $12 million this offseason and that would pretty much eliminate any chances of Detroit being able to offer a max contract to anybody.

If the plan is to trade for Young and sign Anderson that would be an interesting duo though.

I like Larkin too. Only concern is Young's contract is more expensive than he's worth, but if we could offload Meeks in the deal I'd do it. Then we'd still have money to spend in FA this summer and the increasing cap will eventually make it an average contract.

Young/Larkin for Jennings/Meeks works

If we trade for Young it decreases our cap space for next year. How much depends on who else is included in the deal. If we can offload Meeks and take back Larkin (or similar small contract) we get an additional $5M in savings. So his $12M cap space hit is really $7M. If we were projected to have $22M then we'd have $15M to play with (possibly $22-23 if we dont pickup Ersan's option). I'd probably lean toward not picking up the option with Young on board and Tolliver wanting a new deal with Detroit.
