Ty Lawson?

Being that Ty is most likely to be waived if a trade doesn't occur with the Jazz, would he be bad for this team in a backup role? I can't see him being a detriment to what we have... Opinions?

He's had a DUI(maybe a few?) and I read somewhere that he doesn't bod well in the locker room. So on/off court problems come with this guy. I think SVG will steer away from that kind of player so it doesn't ruin the Pistons locker room chemistry.

Being that i was a dedicated nuggets fan for 11 years before becoming a pistons fan prior to the start of the season, I would absolutely love this move.
The actual reason or breaking point that caused me to stop following the nuggets was when they passed on stanley johnson for mudiay. I was craving for the ty lawson stanley johnson backcourt throughout all last season and to see my team pass on a playrr who i still believe is a top 4 player from that draft, I couldn't cosign that **** anymore.
That said, itd be ironic if my original thought of having lawson and sj starting on the nuggs turned into lawson and sj playing together off the bench.
If lawson is waived, detroit must get him. We'll be stacked

So it's a general belief that his negatives outweigh the potential positives for how we would use him?

And about his dui stuff, believe me when I say its not as bad as its made to be. The Nuggets gm and owner were pissed that lawson tweeted that he wished his was on the mavs while he was watching last years playoffs amd since that tweet, the gm and owner immediately started shopping ty. As soon as ty was traded, they started making up bs such as "lawson showdd up to practice drunk" and bs along that line. Believe me when I say we'd be making off like bandits.
Svg would be a great coach for lawson as well. The 2 main reasons I became a pistons fan was because detroit drafted sj and because they brought in svg who i respect as a coach
But yeah, dont buy into those ty lawson dui stories. We need to bring him into detroit if he gets released asap

He seems to be a shadow of his former self. I don't even think his off the court issues are worth his crappy production at this point.

Stunna, I echo your sentiments COMPLETELY. It would be more of the "buy low" approach that Stan has exemplified during his tenure. I cannot see anything wrong with bringing him in and giving him a real opportunity to contribute in the limited capacity in which we'd need him. I envision him seeing this as an opportunity to thumb his nose at the other teams that rejected him.

So did he or did he not drive drunk on multiple occasions? I'd pass, but I also don't think he'd come here anyways. I can't imagine they buy him out either - I mean way to kill any trade value, though maybe he doesn't have any. If the did buy him out they'd need a PG, if we trade for one, maybe ship Dinwiddie there for Thornton.

Not sure of his actual desire to come here... but amongst the teams that need a pg, we're certainly the most attractive... NY/bkn/phx are the only ones that come to mind that could potentially offer him a starting spot; which I doubt would ever happen, but coming to a det team that's on the cusp of REALLY competing has to be compelling.

You know at this point I won't rule out anything but I have a feeling that Stan has landed exactly who he wanted during free agency last year and will roll with what he has for the remainder of this year.
Now free agency next year is going to be reeaaaaaly interesting because while a ton of teams with massive holes go big game hunting, Stan can quietly go out and sign starters, for the bench on the down low.
This team is going to be a **** powerhouse for quite some time to come. Enjoy it Piston fans!

Did he get a dui, yes. Was that why he was traded, no.
Put it like this, denver makes moves based on the public face value of the move itself. Throughout all of last season as a nuggs fan, getting rid of ty lawson was never a discussion. Getting another point guard wasn't a topic of interest. The franchise was actually clamoring for mario hezonja to play with Danilo. Then lawson subsequently got his dui around the time of the teade deadline. The team/franchise stuck with lawson and decided against trading him before the deadline ended.
I personally wanted to trade lawson at the deadline if it meant getting a top 6 pick but wasn't opposed to keeping lawson. Anyway, the team keeps lawson and they bum up the rest of the season. When the playoffs started and dallas was playing against mavs, lawson had tweeted something along the lines of wishing he was playing with the mavs in the playoffs. Once the tweet made waves, the nuggets front office saw that the general public of nuggs fans were upset over the comments and from that moment they begin to slander his name more and shop lawson. Withen the 1st 2 days of lawson being traded, the owner of the nuggs began stretching the truth of the extent of lawsons dui stuff saying he showed up drunk and while bunch of other bs.
I couldnt cosign a team making a move just to appease the public rather than it being bball related. If we traded lawson at the deadline like i wanted to originally, his value was at its highest and we could've gotten something for him. They trade him 5 months later after he has a dui which subsequently brought his overall value down.

Yes he's been arrested 4 times for for driving under the influence.

no thanks... too many drinkers, partiers, weed smokers is not good for a young team. they're already young and immature. adding that to the mix - no

If he's let go I'd have to imagine he goes to Brooklyn or the Knicks who would likely give him all the PG minutes he could handle to rehab his value. If he has a moment of clarity and is ok with a backup role, I'd have to believe it's with a team like the Clippers or Cleveland where he might win a title. I'd be shocked if he chose to back up Reggie and would be concerned about him trying to undermine him to take the job.

If Lawson is waived look for him to go to a team where he'll get a starting role, which isn't Detroit.

If Stan vets him, I'm interested. He's not Markieff bad. It doesn't seem like he's ever destroyed a locker room.

Yes, the Rockets locker room was wrecked well before he got there.

Lawson isn't coming here. If he's cut, there are several teams looking for a starting PG. He needs a place to rehab his image and log some serious minutes.
Beyond that, he's got a drinking problem. 1 DUI? OK maybe a youthful mistake. You apologize and change your habits to keep yourself out of trouble. 4 DUIs? You don't get 4 DUI's unless you have an actual drinking problem. He did 30 days in rehab and then came out and said he didn't think he belonged there and only went because it was court ordered. Hopefully he gets his stuff together and gets back to performing at a high level, but I wouldn't count on it.

i hope so, as i have been repeating and what RJ, Mook , Harris etc have taught us is that team, coach, roster and system matter. Ty lawson was one of the top pg's in this league less than 2 seasons ago(i think) and something happen that turned him into this. Looking at the Denver situation under shaw, its not hard to see how things could have been so f* up. I'd give Ty a shot, at worst we end up cutting him
