Joel Anthony Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Fri Feb 19, 2016 6:23 am

STAN VAN GUNDY: First of all, Joel was a really, really hard guy for us to let go and to say goodbye to, more so probably than most fans would think for a guy who hasn’t played a lot. I’ve been privileged to coach a lot of great people, high-character guys, and I don’t think I’ve ever coached a better professional than Joel Anthony. He’s exactly the type of guy you want in your organization and it was hard to let him go.

Sounds like a Detroit Piston to me.

Thank you Joel for always being ready and teaching our young bucks all the same. We wish you best

I wonder if he returns as a coach under SVG?

Deserves a lot of love, real professional dude. I recall a few games last season when he was swatting a fool a minute! All the best to him.

Was still a better paint protector than Drummond, even to this day. Amazing defensive instincts.

I liked Joel, he didn't play many minutes for us but whenever he got playing time he protected the paint really well.

Joel can help some teams out there. Great guy, and he will be missed.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Welcome Back Joel!! I trust it won't be awkward.
Maybe Stan does him a solid and picks up his TO for next season. It's only 2.5M

Appreciate! Actually surprised some games he doesn't get more time. He is a BLOCKING MACHINE! His Offense isn't very desirable, but I think some games he could give good minutes

I'm very confused as to why/how SVG loves Joel so much yet ignored him ALL YEAR if he can get 8 blocks off the bench like that lol

I really liked him last year actually. We all did. I had assumed he grew much older this year lol

I'll appreciate because I'd rather have our first round pick back than a seemingly broken down Montiejunas.

I guess because Baynes has been really reliable for us.

Motiejunas has looked very mediocre since coming back from injury, we may have dodged a bullet.

Aron has played really well. Joel is good in spots, but I think he gets paid what he does to be a lockerroom presecence.
