Would you pick up Andre Miller or Martin?

Post#1 » by piston1423 » Thu Feb 25, 2016 9:48 pm

Sounds like the wolves plan on waving them. Not sure if Miller is still any good but those 2 could be a vet shooting guard and point guard off the bench. Would you take a chance on either of them or take even both?

KMart could be our Meeks replacement, assuming Bullock doesn't regress like a scrub again. KMart literally doesn't know defense at all which fits perfect for the Meeks role.

At this point, I think it's counterproductive to sign anyone who doesn't play defense or plays selfishly on offense. Building those habits over the stretch run is just as important as making the playoffs.

I'd sign Joe Johnson before Miller or Martin.

We need to do everything we can to sign Andre Miller

Martin will probably join a contender before coming to Detroit

Joe Johnson will NEVER step foot in Detroit

Andre Miller wouldn't be a bad guy to go after.

Andre Miler would be key to finish the season with a winning record. He'd miles upgrade over Blake who doesn't play well anyway. I'm actually surprised by how well Blake shoots the ball. It surprises me every time it goes inside

Andre Miller is 40 years old. He's beyond finished. Unfortunately for us Joe Johnson ain't even going to consider coming here - he's going to Cleveland, and KMart, if waived, will surely head to OKC.

Is Miller potentially being miles better than Blake based on Miller of this year? I literally haven't seen Miller play one single minute this season. So are you assuming he'd be miles better or have you actually watched him play?

I don't think we're a team that can pick up veteran players who got waived, at least not yet.

Contending teams are always looking for another shooter off the bench, or another ball handler off the bench, either as injury assurance or for added depth for a playoff run. Players like that would rather sign there than with a non-contending team that may not even make the playoffs.

Probably particularly true for guys like Martin and Miller, who have played on mediocre teams throughout their careers.

We're not in the running for Johnson, nor should we be; he's gonna go to a bonafide TITLE contender, not a playoff contender. If Martin gets bought out, I assume he's a consolation prize for one of the other front runners who doesn't get Johnson. Both are certainly worth making a phone call about, but both should have more attractive suitors.

Miller, on the other hand, should get SVG's best "hard sales pitch" ASAP. I don't care how old he is; he's a pro's pro and it could be great if Reggie could pick his brain every day in practice (imagine Reggie learning how to use his length to post up smaller PGs). I also posted the following, more succinct rationale for picking up Miller on the T&T board earlier —

' Cuz Steve Blake ... :noway:

I like our direction, but at the end of the day we're about .500 and may not make the playoffs. Guys with options probably aren't coming here.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

That would be my worry with Miller. Giving Reggie a bona fide mentor to lean on would be nice, but if the goal is to strengthen the second unit for a chance to make the playoffs Detroit needs somebody who can actually play.

Nah I understand. I really was honestly asking because I'm not sure. I literally have not seen a single minute of play from Dre this year. Didn't know if he had anything in the tank or not.

Yeah, I agree. Of those three, Miller's the only one we have a shot at and it's our biggest need anyway.

Id be happy with Miller. He may not be much of an upgrade over Blake, but we need as much help as we can get at pg.
