Meeks Cleared For Practice

Post#1 » by bballnmike » Fri Mar 4, 2016 5:37 pm

Let's hope he can get in shape quickly and help us make a push for the playoffs. (And maybe earn some of that contract so people here will stop complaining/up his trade value) 8-)

Yeah..Meeks needs to get his value up so he can get traded on the first day of the offseason.

Not sure when the Meeks hate hit full stride, but if he's healthy he's okay as a reserve two guard and his contract isn't awful.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Let's go Meeks! When can we expect him in a game? Any guesses?

I'd give him two weeks. should be enough time. Didn't think we'd see him this season

He can stroke it from 3 and get to the line, he's extremely affordable and could be a big difference maker for us.

I feel bad for him. I don't recall anything negative ever coming from him. He's just been unlucky with all these injuries. Hopefully he can come back and contribute this year.

i feel bad as well, but when your the odd man out, you got to go. especially when this is going to be the last time we can strike in free agency before Dre's and Reggies contracts are up.

I'm not going to get to excited until I see him on the floor, but he could help a lot. Help with KCP's minutes.

i'm not expecting much from meeks this season, he's only starting to have full practices now after being injured for most of the last two years. he'll likely be out of shape and very rusty - not good news for a player who is small and relies on his shot.

hopefully he can provide some bench shooting down the stretch and come back fully healthy next with a proper offseason. he'd be a welcome addition to the rotation next year.

Yeah as whitehops mentioned, he's going to be extremely rusty. The guy hasn't seen the court in who knows how long.

We know his defense isn't great much like our other guards minus KCP, so we're going to need every ounce of shooting that we originally signed him up for. Otherwise, Bullock has been fine giving us reserve minutes at the 2.

A healthy Meeks would be a great inclusion right now. Hope he gets back soon.

Man, I hope he comes in and shoots the lights out so that he raises his trade value. No matter what, I don't want this guy on the team next year if we can dump him and make a run at a good player.

if he can get in shape, and come out playing towards the end of the season, and we make the playoffs, he can be a good boost. thats what we need.

im not a supporter but he does provide what we could always use.

Hey let's not forget how horrific Bullock has been. Has he broken our of his slump and been quite good? Yes. Was he perhaps the worst player on the team before that? Oh yeah.

What worries me about Bullock are his nerves. The worst kind of player any team can have is a high pressure failer. That was on full display when Bullock chocked up on an easy as pie push shot 2 feet in front of the rim in the Raptors game. He started playing much better later in the game but it immediately reminded me of Keith Van Horn. Remember him? Pressure crushed that guy.

Now the two players roles couldn't be more different but if foul trouble strikes he could be called upon and I just trust Meeks more.

Maybe Bullock can change my mind over time, but that's gonna take away.

With Stanley in the rotation, there's only room for 1 of Meeks/Bullock/Hilliard, and they're all the same type of player, so not sure what Meeks can really add that we aren't already getting from Bullock/Hilliard in that role. This is an odd roster/rotation in that all of our best 3pt shooters always seem to be at the same position. Before it was Ersan/Tolliver at PF, now it's these 3 at SG. Need to come up with a rotation that allows for all of these guys to play and play some together, otherwise it's no use having shooters if you can only play them one at a time in limited minutes.

It's becoming apparent to me now that his play early in the season was just due to not getting enough minutes to settle into a rhythm, and nothing to do with stage fright or anything like that. He was only getting like 5 mpg and 1 FGA. No one can produce in those circumstances. In the preseason he got 20-25 mpg and 4-5 3FGAs, which is about what he's getting now, and he's playing the same against top competition now. So I think he just needs adequate minutes/shots to get his rhythm like most players.
