Doesn't necessarily mean disrespect. Could actually mean the opposite. They used to choose Jordan's games vs the Bad Boys to use as covers because of the rivalry, but also because scoring over the Bad Boys was tougher than some random scrubs, so it made Jordan they look tougher. Could be a little of both here too. Age-wise these guys are the future of the NBA, and maybe they wanted to feature him against some of his similar-aged upcoming-star peers, and viewed the Pistons as one of the better young defensive teams and a possible future rival.
Who knows, just saying this doesn't automatically mean disrespect. Depends how you look at it. I think it's cool, personally, and good for the Pistons to get any kind of national exposure they can.

This. I doubt they would have any reason to intentionally diss the Pistons, so the fact that they made sure to include them seems more out of respect. Drummond is a similar aged young star, Harris is another with star potential, KCP is one of the better young perimeter defenders, and Reggie is one of the better young PGs. They probably just wanted to include as much young talent as possible on a cover featuring one of the top young stars.

It's a good photo for the article. it's just a photo of Leonard shooting against a few defenders that happen to be Pistons.

It coulda been worse. All 4 Pistons could have been jumping up trying to block Kahwi as he was draining that 3.
