Schedule Comparison for Competing East Teams

Post#1 » by ChuckVanBrown » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:24 pm

I put together the following chart that shows the remaining regular season games for the seven teams battling for the 4-8 seeds:

The games coded in yellow highlighting represent wins, red represents losses, and bold represents home games. I plan on updating this chart every few games or so, and decided to start a new thread for it. I hope this is an useful resource when following the playoff race for the remainder of the season:

Some general observations:

- Charlotte has had a pretty nice schedule lately. From 2/29 to 3/21, 10 of their 12 games are at home. After that period, 3 of their remaining 12 games are at home.

- Out of all of these 7 teams, Detroit has by far the nicest stretch with 9 straight home games from 3/16- 4/1. If they can win 7 of these 9 games (or more), it will help tremendously.

- Back to backs: Detroit has 6 remaining B2B games left, but they are spaced out by a week or so between each game. Chicago, in comparison, has 4 B2B games before the end of March. Charlotte also has 8 games from 3/11 to 3/22. 8 games in 12 nights is pretty rough.

- These teams have many games left against one another. This will likely prevent multiple teams from truly breaking from the pack.

Indy playing good ball. Gotta hope Chicago implodes. Detroit has a nice schedule tho. Need to go on a 4-7 game winning streak!

Nice chart!

Next 10 games are very winnable. Hoping to see 7 wins in that stretch. Would build phenomenal momentum into the final stretch of the season.

Nice job.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Thanks Bill. At a minimum, I plan on posting an updated chart every Monday to map out the previous week's trends. I may also add more frequent updates based on how the games start to take shape.

In bold is what is important. There is no reason for the Pistons to miss the playoffs.

Team has to come together fast, but it has been done before.

Actually, the team doesn't have to come together at all if the Wiz and Bulls keep crapping the bed.

Well I meant it more in a "they make the playoffs and do some kind of damage" kind of way. I dont care if the Pistons lose in the first round, just that they give whoever a hell of a fight and to do that, they need to really play off each other. Last night there were a ton of turnovers because players thought other players would be a certain place and were not.

That kind of thing takes time and im hoping that it comes when they make an actual push into the playoffs.

i'm confident we'll make the playoffs but getting out of 8th seed is key since the cavs are a much tougher matchup than any other team.

I'd rather play the Cavs than the Raps!

Watching Cleveland implode is gonna be fun :-)

Below is an updated schedule showing the results from the week of 3/7-3/13. Again, bold represents home games, yellow highlighting represents wins, and red represents losses. The numbers on the top of the chart represent the Eastern Conference standings of each team.

Image

Results (3/7-3/13):
MIA: 1-3
CHA: 4-0
ATL: 3-1
IND: 2-1
DET: 2-1
CHI: 1-2
WAS: 0-3

Some thoughts on the upcoming week of games (3/14-3/20):

- Indy has a tough week, against 3 solid teams. All of these games are at home though.
- Washington has lost 5 straight. A loss against Detroit tomorrow may end their playoff chances.
- Indy and Chicago both play Toronto this week. Toronto has a real shot at the #1 seed. Expect them to continue trying to win.
- Charlotte hasn't lost in two weeks. The 4 games they have this week are all winnable. They may climb up the ratings.

Some thoughts on the upcoming week of games (3/21-3/27):

- Atlanta has been playing great basketball, and is now in the 3rd seed. They play Wizards twice this week, and Pistons on the road (both teams on a back to back that night). They've won 8 of their last ten.
- After losing 5 straight, Washington has turned it around and won 4 straight, with impressive wins against Detroit and Chicago. They begin their 5 game west coast road trip at the end of the week.
- Detroit continues their home stretch, with two easy matchups to begin the week, but ends the week against Charlotte and Atlanta. If they can go 3-1 during this stretch, it will put them at 39 wins by the end of the week, with 8 games remaining in the season.
- Chicago has 9 games in the next 14 nights, with 5 of those games on the road (3 being back to backs). In comparison, Detroit has 7 games during that same duration, with 6 of them at home. Fatigue will play a big factor in the remaining 3.5 weeks of the regular season.

looks like Chicago has 8 easy wins coming up.
Detroit only has 4 games they are "supposed" to win.

The Pistons have no hope unless they start beating CHA, CHI, WAS, ATL, MIA
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Detroit is 2-1 with chicago, and 2-0 against Miami. 1-2 against Atlanta (1 game remaining).

The only teams detroit has a real problem with in the East, are exactly who I have been saying;

Washington and Charlotte.

They play both teams one more time, and both at home.

Detroit needs at least 7 more wins (43 total) but 8 would be best. (44 wins total) That would be 8-4. Of they win the next 2 easy winnable games against the Bucks, and Magic it would be 6-4. That is absolutely doable.

If they win the Charlotte game at home its 5-4.

I'm trying to break this down into easy bites and saying Detroit has only 4 games they are supposed to win is absolutely incorrect even if you go by Vegas stadards.

Indiana is now clearly in the "4 teams competing for 2 spots" group with DET, CHI, and WAS.

Agreed although if memory serves they have a cream puff schedule so there is that.
