$92 million salary cap next season... Contracts will be crazy!

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Sat Apr 16, 2016 2:06 pm

With the $92 million salary cap (about $3 million more than previously estimated, which means about $90 million more in capspace to be spent league wide) contracts are going to be even more insane this summer. Almost everyone is going to have the ability to have max cap space. This is a reason I'm glad Stan decided to keep that draft pick because we'll get a borderline rotation player(or at least an 11th or 12th man) for a very low price on a 4 year deal.

Andre Drummond's max contract also goes up to about $126.5 million over 5 years.

16-17: $22.00 million
17-18: $23.65 million
18-19: $25.30 million
19-20: $26.95 million
20-21: $28.60 million

A max contract for a vet like Al Horford with their own team goes up to $150 million over 5 years! There are going to be a lot of fringe all-star type players (or above average starters) making $20+ million per year which is going to be nuts, but the salary cap is expected to be even higher the following year so perhaps teams will look at it as not that bad before the cap goes up to $107 or $110 million the following year.

Contracts for Reggie, Mook, and Tobias looking better all the time. How much will we have to play with once we take care of Dre and our pick?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

morris' contract will be 5.4% of the salary cap next year. that's the equivalent of $3.4 milion at the time he signed his extension before the 2015 season.

we have should a chart with salary cap % so people don't flip out at the total numbers this offseason lol. two seasons ago the salary cap was ~$59 million which means that the cap will have spiked 56% in the three years since. so essentially what was a $10 million contract will now be $15 million and change.
