After both Winslow and SJ are done this season... are you happy with the pick?

I know I am. Justice has no shot, and disappears. SJ is constant energy, and you can see how high his ceiling is. I thought we were wrong on draft night, now I'm happy with the pick. Are you guys?

I was happy on Draft Day and nothing that I've seen or read since has made me doubt it was the right choice.

If anything the things I've seen and read have made me happier SVG & his crew made the decision we did.

And let us not forget we were never taking Winslow. NEVER!

I'm indifferent to the pick. I don't think anyone can really argue that one player has been clearly better than the other, and Johnson was an absolute trainwreck at the end of the season.

Wait and see, I guess.

Yea the best part of the whole comparison thing is it was never between these two for SVG & Co.
Which should speak volumes of what they thought of Winslow lol
The real question going forward is should we have picked Booker..to early to tell right now..
Booker had an NBA skill coming in and Stanimal was/is a jack of all trades...
It will be fun to see if Booker becomes anything more than a shooter and what SJ becomes Elite at!

They will both be very good, just in different ways. I still like Stanley better as a fit for our current roster, but it's way too early to say if we blew it or are smarter than the experts. For now... in Stan I Trust.

SJ has a lot more offensive potential and still has good defensive potential as well. I think next season Johnson will be the clear favorite.

They will always be compared to each other because of the draft. I think it is too early to know who is going to be better. Both players need to work on their game. They both have AllStar potential, and certainly solid starter potential. Am I happy now? I'd say yes - like Stanley's attitude and I think he'll work on his game extremely hard. He learned a lot this year, and also learned what he doesn't know yet. Next year will be interesting to see how both players step up their game.

Yes. Wanted Stanley over Winslow at the time of the draft, still do. Love Johnson's fire. Something's missing with Justise.

The only potential regret I see here is Turner. I think he's a fit at the 4 with Drummond, and if he turns out better than SJ (possible, hardly certain), it'll hurt.

I don't get why "SJ & Winslow will be compared to each other forever".

2 SFs taken so closely together has surely happened before - I can't remember though.

I don't compare KCP with other guards selected around him

I don't compare Dre with other bigs taken around him either.

Over time people just move on - and that will happen here except for certain DET & MIA fans

Me neither, but is funny when you compare KCP with McLemore

In a vacuum, most neutral fans give Winslow a slight advantage. The Johnson pick seems to have been made on attitude as much as talent, which I understand given the culture of the team. And I hate Winslow's body language. Stoic, not seeming to really get emotional or connect with teammates. He just feels like a prima donna.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

The reason is that many draft experts thought we should have taken Winslow instead of Johnson. Only time will tell if we were right or not, but we will keep coming back to that story for awhile. Notice in the Pistons grades, almost everyone mentions Winslow.

I didn't follow Winslow or Miami much at all this season so I can't really comment on him, but as far as Stanley goes I'm pretty happy with the pick.
He has plenty of room to develop, but his competiveness and drive is a welcome addition to a team that has lacked leadership. I hope it becomes contagious.

Yes. Stanley Johnsons demeanor and quite frankly the fact that hes a SF and Winslow is a guard as well helps. I don't think Stanley will be a superstar, just a very good starter.

Here's the difference. Stanley Johnson has potential to take over games and Winslow doesn't. Maybe that's because of the role of the team. As a Sixth man he probably had more chances to show flashes at the same time though Winslow had a smaller role and wasn't the center of the bench. Stanley was the right choice and I was wrong about Winslow. But it's probably the difference of Gerald Wallace or Stephen Jackson (Winslow), compared to a Ron Artest and Ariza (Stanley). All are solid players. The argument will eventually stop and it's up to the players to decide if they want to be stars. Stanley has a bigger fire.

I've always thought it just came down to the fact that Johnson could physically guard LeBron in a seven game series especially as they both get older, as Winslow would not be able.

I loved that we took Stanley over Winslow on draft night. I'd take Stanley over Winslow a million times over. Skill set aside, Stanley's passion and demeanor are invaluable to the growth of this team. he's already a leader at just 19. something about Winslow's personality turns me off. he strikes me as someone who thinks he's too good for Detroit. Stanley wanted to be a Piston and is proving he is a Piston.

Very happy, largely due to Stanley's work ethic. He's definitely on the rise.

Winslow looks to me like he's getting by on athleticism more than hard work. I may be wrong, since playing on a D-Wade team involves more standing around on offense, but he doesn't look as mentally locked in as Stanley is. We'll see.
