I thought it was a brilliant trade when it was first reported. Imagine an alternate universe where we didn't do our due diligence and not only did we keep him, but signed him to $17m/year or whatever it was we were estimating he would get on the open market.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

I was pretty excited when we first got him as he showed a lot of potential the year before in Houston. Thank God SVG caught onto his injuries before it was too late though as that would have sucked.

Re: Around the League
I won't say I was a huge fan of the original trade. Never like giving up 1sts for role players that have "potential", almost 4 years into the NBA and 5+ after being drafted.
Trade wasn't awful, I got the idea of why (had the deal stayed).
I wonder if Donatas still wants to sue us? god we dodged a bullet.

Sent from my SM-J110F using RealGM mobile app
Since no one replied
IMO:
Atlanta, Brooklyn, Boston, CHA, CHI don't have a franchise guy
Cavs have Lebron
DEN, DAL, DET don't have a franchise player
GSW have KD & Curry
HOU have Harden - I no longer view CP3 as a franchise guy
IND, LAC, LAL, MIA, MEM don't have franchise guys
MIL has Giannis
MIN has KAT
NO has AD
NY doesn't have a franchise player
OKC has Westbrook
ORL, PHI, PHO, POR, SAC don't have franchise guys
Spurs have Leonard
TOR, UTA & WAS don't have franchise guys either
Lebron, KD, Curry, Harden, Westbrook, KAT, Giannis, AD, Leonard...
Those guys are true franchise players to me. Jimmy Butler might be
There's a lot of guys who are close or could be (Joel, Cousins) but not there for whatever reason IMO

Man your concept of franchise player is absolutely wrong. Blake Griffin, John Wall, Jokic, Isaiah Thomas, Butler, Lillard... Those guys are totally legit franchise players.

Blake - history of injuries
Wall - quality but struggled to lead his team anywhere until last season when Beal & Porter fired
Jokic - less than a full season of stellar play eliminates him
IT2 - up until last season he was nothing impressive
Butler - extremely close I admit but the Bulls last season were terrible in the weak East
Dame - also extremely close but not quite there yet.
Happy for people to post their own lists though cause there's no set criteria available and it is the off-season

Seems more psychological than skill-based imo.
Curry, Bron, KD, Harden, Westbrook, Kawhi, Davis are obvious.
I would argue Towns, Lillard, IT, Wall, PG13 and Giannis too
Also what's your reasoning on CP3? Just curious

CP3 = aging, injury prone & some poor results in LA make me question his "franchise" tag.

Injury questions, i'll buy, but that also means that AD isn't a franchise player.
I don't think CP3 has declined noticeable in quality, although he has in volume. And if those are poor results than we have to really wonder whether there are any franchise players other than Steph, Lebron and KD.

Re: Around the League
Because CP3 is older his injuries carry more weight than ADs
And the poor results for CP3 mean more because I can't recall the last playoff series he dominated.
All the guys I named other than KAT have dominated at least one playoff series or carried their team to the playoffs pretty much single handed.
CP3 hasn't done either in years!
I'm well aware my list is not going to be the same as many (any?) and that's ok.
I don't pretend to be the last word on the topic and thought it would be something to pass the time.
How do we determine "franchise" players? What criteria is there? Is it based on a "feeling" or is it more tangible?

Re: Around the League
If I was LeBron I would try to go to the Celtics no matter what. They're a perfect fit for GSW, got young players who can contribute with cheap contracts and two great players and scorers who can play off ball like Thomas and Hayward. Morris giving a rest to the King would be great.
And they would go to the Finals without lose a game.

CP3 also hasn't had a bad series since the SAS sweep in 2012
Davis played very well in the series against GSW a couple years ago, but his team was swept. And I don't think his performance was any noticeably better than CP3's against the Spurs in '15, or even Utah this past year
Westbrook hasn't had any dominating playoff series, neither has Harden
Clips were 31-16 with Paul and without Griffin in '16 (22-13 with Griffin), is that not carrying?

CP3 IMO is aging, injury prone and now in Houston as the #2.
I no longer view him as a franchise player
I no longer view him as a franchise player

Andrew Nicholson just got waived by Portland for Luxury tax reasons. Dude can seriously score on anybody, but is horrible on Defense. Pistons should consider him on a minimum contract for depth at PF.

Big LOL at Lakers admitting they only really were interested in KCP to form a relationship with his agent. And given LAL won't have KCP's bird rights they ain't gonna keep him if they did last Lebron. It's going to be the Lonzo Ball show in LA, KCP being an after-thought who got paid to allow his agent to save face, but will not be any focal point of the offense to help him earn a UFA contract the next off-season.
Weaver = Hinkie

And he's going into FA next off-season when Brooklyn is out of the running since they acquired Crabbe
So where's he gonna go?
Who's gonna have $15+ mil to offer?
