After the draft, Detroit will continue to shop guard Jodie Meeks to find him a new team, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Does this mean we were shopping him during the draft? I guess it doesn't matter. Just interested in the wording of it is all. Anyways, I'd actually like to keep Meeks as it's his walk year, and he needs to earn his next contract and thus would be super motivated to prove his health and worth. However it sounds like Pistons don't have plans or minutes for him - I guess they much really like Hilliard heading into his second season.
Meeks is scheduled to make 6M range, so if we can trade him for a similar contract at a position of need it might be best for all parties. Given he hasn't played much the last two seasons though, I'm not sure anybody would give up much for him now, so we might be better served taking him into camp and reminding teams what he can do and then trading him early in the season.

I'm still a fan of Meeks too but the Pistons have a lot of depth on the wing now. If he can bring back someone of a similar level at an actual area of need then it makes a lot of sense. Just dumping him for cap space (without any significant asset attached of course) is fine too. There's no spot for Jodie in the rotation so even if Detroit strikes out on free agents it wouldn't be much of a loss.

Its unsurprising. He's priced at 6 million and has barely played for us. Would probably have to part with an asset to dump him.
Its a play for added flexibility, especially if the rumors about Horford and Anderson are true, though unloading 6 million dollars in dead weight makes sense even if you aren't going to be a free agent player.

Jodie Meeks is a decent player if he could stay healthy, if marco belinelli can get a pick it seem like we could at least get cap space

Don't think it's necessary to pair an asset with Meeks. He only has one year left in his deal and should play well in his last year barring an injury.

He's the type of player that might be easy to dump after people have struck out on other options. Remember he was a really good scorer in LA and he's on a below MLE contract now so its entirely possible a team would want him as a backup SG at his price tag.... I just think most teams will want to look at other options first, to keep their options open.

It almost sounds as if SVG and Meeks are on the same page, which seems like what happened with Dinwiddie. Stan probably tells them they are not going to get much playing time, and they would be limited to a specific role. The player seems unhappy, gets their agent involved, and they try to work out a trade that is beneficial for all. Obviously SVG holds all the cards, but it doesn't hurt to be seen as a reasonable GM - it can help attract players later.

Meeks should be able to be traded - 6M for a backup SG is a good deal compared to what is going to happen this summer.

With some of the stupid things I'm seeing and hearing from most of these GMs we should be able to get rid of him easily

I wonder if we can trade him for Darren Collison. If they plan to match anything for Seth Curry, he could be the odd man out. I really wanna see DC in the D.

Although unlikely, it would be great to come up with a trade package that involves Meeks for Patrick Beverley.
It would address our backup PG need without overpaying in free agency, and would allow us to preserve cap room for a solid free agent signing. Houston is shopping Beverley, and I'm sure they will want more in return. However, Meeks is healthy now, and Houston may be looking at a change in the PG position in free agency.

Wow 6 million!? Remember how many people were blown away by how "big" that contract was? That's like a third of what most average players will get this offseason. Even Baynes' contract is small haha. Crazy!

I think it's actually likely considering the Rockets like their small guards (Thornton) who can score well off the bench. I think the Rockets will take a contract like Meeks and go for a big FA next offseason which is supposedly going to be a bigger offseason than this one coming up. Considering our front office didn't make a move for Ibaka or Thad Young, I'm thinking they're being patient to get the best offer out there. Free Agency is a bigger risk that the draft because the value is higher and there's no guarantee of getting a player after clearing out cap space (pheonix). Can't wait to see what happens first day of FA. Should be a lot of fun to watch! The NBA will probably wait a while until Durant makes his decision and then the chips will fall quickly and that's why our front office bites another organization lol

You are exactly right. Stan likes to lurk in the shadows. While the cops come and talk out the bank robbers, and talk to the news, and all the hostages are seeing their families, the bank manager is calling home office, and the security guards are smoking a cig to calm down, here comes Stan walking into the bank, into the wide open vault, grabs a few sacks of 100$ bills, walks out of the bank and no one even knows they were robbed.
I expect nothing less this year as well.

I would rather have a chance at Horford... AKA dump Meeks for cap space.
