If I were Ish Smith, I'd be pissed at my agent...

Post#1 » by ven412 » Sat Jul 2, 2016 3:42 pm

Hill gets $50M, Tuner gets $70M, even the re-animated corpse of Joe Johnson got $11M per year and Ish gets 18 over 3? That's not even to bring up the fact that Mike Conley got $150M guaranteed as a non-superstar. Smith is going to be at the top of every "Top Free Agent Bargains" list that comes out this off season.

I wonder what the odds are of Smith trying to re-negotiate a better deal with another team or at least a player option after year 1 into his Pistons contract since he isn't officially signed yet.

Interesting thought. He's still a free agent.

The top backup points going into free agency (Lin/delly) didn't get much more per year anyway

This. Smith's deal is about what he should get relative to the others at that position agreed to so far. There's a better chance of LeBron opting out and coming to Detroit than there is for Ish reneging on hsi agreement.

Ish only made the minimum thus far, he wasn't even a rotation player until last season, he took the security and the Pistons gave him a good, not great deal.

Lin signed for 2x what Smith got. Delly got nearly 10 and I would argue he was underpaid as well. Either way, they both got $36 and $38 guaranteed which is still way more than $18.

Can't he technically back out still? I'm glad we got him at the price we did, however if I were him I'd feel schwindled out of some money lol

Technically he could but it would look bad on him and his agent to back out on their word. Dude is getting what he should for where he's at in his career.

argue it. I'm game. I want you to get me to agree, or even see where your coming from in regards to Delly being underpaid.

Ish Smith's contract is the 2nd smallest of all free agency so far... Yeah, Ish should be upset with his agent lol

14.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 7.0apg (2.6tpg), 1.3spg on Philly last year (plus the team definitely improved after Ish joined) should earn you better than that. I'm lovin' it for the Pistons though!! :D

3 Players, all signed this off season. Who deserved the most money?

Player A 27 Yo 10.5-4.9-4.4 45% FG 24% 3P SG/PG (9.3 shots/game) - $17.5m/Year
Player B 25 Yo 7.5-2.1-4.4 41% FG 41% 3P PG (6.7 shot pg) - $9.6M/year
Player C 25 Yo 4.2-2.8-1.0 45% FG 32% 3P SF (3.5 shot pg) - $13m/year

OF these three, I would easily Delly the most money and he ended up with far less than the others in this new cap environment. Delly is tied for the youngest, hits the highest percentage from 3 (by far), has been stuck behind one of the best PG in the league so his opportunities have been limited. I believe that also gives him a higher chance of breaking out compared to the other two (ala Reggie Jackson). I would have taken Delly at 9.6M over Smith at 6M, but I bet he wants a chance to start at PG.

To add another example, Austin Rivers just resigned for 3 years/$35M (11.7/yr).

He definitely got underpaid. But if he proves he's a top tier back up over the next 3 years he'll get paid.

So....12-18 minutes per game for Ish?
Think him and RJ could play together in the backcourt?

Most likely not, both are ball dominate and can't defend.

Well, I sure as heck am gonna love seeing Ish come into the game instead of Blake lol.
The pace he'll play at and the playmaker that he is will sure be exciting to have coming off our bench. Our assists/game were one of the lowest in the league

Well I'm sure if Larry Smith ran the Pistons Ish would be making eight-figures as well.

Ish wasn't getting more money than he got. He barely made rosters until 2 years ago. He earned his contract the hard way.
