KCP is going to get PAID next summer...

With another huge increase in the cap, KCP is going to get at least $25 million per year over 4 years... Never thought he would get a $100+ million contract but its going to happen. Stan should consider extending him this year if KCP is willing to take a 4 year $80 million extension before the season starts.

I wouldn't. I'm all for paying him full market value if his three pointer is falling and he keeps up his defense. But if it's only the latter with a sketchy former, that's not worth 80M over four. Besides his agent is Rich Paul - he ain't signing before hitting RFA next season. We match any offer sheet he signs next year and then we trade him if we think he's not worth it - either via S&T or come December.

This is a big year for KCP to show what he is.

I would just wait on that. I love his upside as a two way player but I want to see some efficiency from him before I'm handing out huge deals. It's probably going to be a good year for Pope which should be fun to mess with Todd about

Caldwell-Pope will be eligible for the low max contract next season, which should come in at around $25-26 million for the first year if the cap jumps up to around $110 million. So yeah, he's getting over $100 million for 4 years if an extension isn't reached by November. Teams are going to have a bunch of cap space to spend again next summer. To be honest I don't see any way Rich Paul lets him sign an extension unless it's for projected market value. Nothing on the (relative) cheap. He will want Kentavious to chase the big money in the summer, whether it's from Detroit or someone else. Rightfully so too.

If he plays like he did in the playoffs he'll be worth it.

If he plays like he did this year I'd let him walk or attempt a sign and trade over paying him that much. If his offensive game gets a lot more consistent I'll let him write his own check.

Playoff KCP is pretty great. Like definitely worth the 21% of the cap. Otherwise I wouldn't mind letting him explore the open market if he's more or less than the same guy.

So the 04 pistons would have been all max players

In this market? Yes! All 5 starters would likely get maxed

A guy like Corliss probably woulda got $16 mil per

A guy like Hunter woulda got $10 mil per - if not more

And so on

Whether anyone likes to hear it or not, he is our best player. Drummond is great too but his defense isn't as consistent as KCPs defense. If KCP plays like how he did in the playoffs, he's a guarantee max player no doubt and he'll absolutely get it next summer, 100%. Only thing keeping it away from him is injuries but I think he'll be alright. Morris will eventually get paid too but I think we will lose him to another team and start Stanley Johnson

Not sure why you figured I wouldn't want to hear this.

I haven't gotten a good guffaw like that in a long time.

Todd wouldn't want to hear it haha. I mean he's basically like how Eric Gordon was before his injuries. He's definitely not as great of a scorer but there's a reason Gordon got his max contract last time and there's a reason why KCP will get it too.

In hindsight absolutely. But keep in mind they were mostly players teams didn't want. So if I were to compare some players, let's say Bismack Biyombo didn't play like he did in the Playoffs. He wouldn't have gotten his contract this summer and he goes to a team and takes over defensively. That's what Ben Wallace's situation was like. Rasheed would've gotten a max. None of the players on the 04 pistons were actually proven to be stars. They just fit together really well. I'd say we have a "similar" team now in how Jackson had to get traded to become a better player, the better example is Marcus Morris. Harris as we know it could be an All Star next season, still young and an extremely hard worker, versatile. Anything can happen! And he's been traded twice now like how Chauncey kept bouncing around teams. I do believe our front office has ONE more trade to make this season to put us over the hump or maybe try to get better and cross our fingers for a FA next summer. As far as we know, it seems like it's easy to find great trades for us somehow.

My laugh was the assertion that he's our best player.

I remember a few months ago, when I thought KCP getting $12-14 million was crazy.

Now? $20+ million when the cap jumps again next year does not sound crazy. Honestly, the dude needs to significantly improve his shooting for me to personally feel like that deal is worth it. The whole hot week followed by three cold weeks doesn't cut it.

It will be interesting to see if KCP actually wants an extension this season or waits to hit restricted free agency. I am sure VanBower will try to sign him this summer, he will only get more expensive next summer. 4/80 or 5/100 would be reasonable in this new NBA world.

There was speculation among observers at the Orlando Pro Summer League that Caldwell-Pope could seek a multi-year deal worth around $20 million per season – understandable if you see the money being thrown around this off-season.

That’s a price the Pistons are probably unwilling to pay – they'd rather get a deal around $15 million per season.

Not good. He's probably definitely going to get AT LEAST 20 million a year. I wouldn't surprised if a team maxes him out and I also wouldn't be surprised if we let him walk and start Stanley at the 2. We'd save money and maybe get a better shooting guard/forward off the bench. It all depends on how he does this season.

If he doesn't improve his shooting I could easily see a S&T / us moving on to a better shooter. It's kind of scary, it's a huge question mark for our team this year.
