Should SVG Target a Backup SG Before July 7th?

I'm thinking SVG should try to look to sign a veteran SG guard to backup KCP for this upcoming season. A couple guys that come to mind are Brandon Rush from Golden State, Gerald Henderson from Portland, Maybe Lance Stephenson on a 2yr Deal with 2nd year as Team Option or Seth Curry from Sacramento... Ever since Jodie Meeks Requested a trade, that created a big hole at the backup SG position. I just dont see Darrun Hilliard or Reggie Bullock as reliable backup options for the Pistons at ths point, Maybe in another season or 2 but not right now.We need more more experienced guys with Playoff experience. What do you guys think?

You might not like them, but Stan likes Bullock and Hilliard. Not to mention, Stanley Johnson can get some minutes there if necessary as well. Also Gbinije will make the roster as well, though should spend most of his season playing point guard in the D-League.

We only need about 12 minutes for a backup SG since KCP plays so much, a combo of Hilliard, bullock and Johnson can cover that

I'd like a backup SG that we can trust is gonna be able to create some offense, but if Smitty is right, it looks that isn't on our radar at all.

There is about zero chance SVG targets another SG on this team. Only position left is 3rd String PG.

Piston fans are starting to become obsessed with backup SG way too much. Talking about spending 6,7 mill on a player that would only play 10 mins if that. You guys are crazy. Hillard and Bullock are perfectly fine at this position. Stanley will be getting time there too.

There aren't glaring holes this team has at the moment until a major injury comes

We got a pretty nice backcourt rotation. Reggie-KCP-Ish-Bullock are enough for 96 minutes. And we can play SJ and Hilliard as SGs too.
People want last year GSW deep rotation, we're still a work in progress team guys, we don't need elites rotation players.

I think Bullock is fine as our 3 and d guy off the bench, he had some moments last year where he played really good.

If SVG truly wanted a backup SG, then he would not have traded away Meeks!!!!!

I think Smitty is right and we will just sign Joel back

I don't think this is a bad idea. We shouldn't overspend, but keep our eyes out for another shooter. We do have the roster spot for it, even after possibly bring Joel back. It's not just about the 10 mpg, but also in case their are injuries or matchup issues. And Meeks wanted a fresh start so we accommodated him.

We don't have a need or room for a backup SG, Bullock, Hilliard, Stanley.. it's already going to be hard enough to find minutes for Bullock/Hilliard.

I think we're fine at SG. Maybe look at some leftover vets before the exhibition games start to see if we can stumble upon someone. Kind of prefer we sign a veteran combo guard like Barbosa then get a SG though.

I guess that is what it comes down to - can Bullock and Hilliard be counted on to fill 2nd and 3rd string SG? I see Stanley as a SF. He can guard the 2 (he can guard anyone) but more of a 3. So if we bring someone in, does that stunt Bullock/Hilliard growth, or does it give them more competition?

Seth Curry is going to sign a 2 yr $6 million contract with Dallas. That seems like a pretty good bargain. I don't know why everyone is sleeping on this guy. He isn't his brother, but he did play pretty well down the stretch and can hit the three. Seems like he should be worth at least the QO that Sac pulled from him.

If they don't use the space for anything, I wonder why they traded Meeks? He would have been fine as a backup.

Assuming it's reasonable to expect all our current swings to be healthy, I don't see why we go to acquire another right off. It makes sense to sit on some cap and see what happens. Trades later, or emergency situations. As it stands, the Pistons seem pretty well set to start the season. Are the Cavs trembling? Probably not, but with improved size and depth, and with the competitive fire this team has demonstrated, should be interesting.

Meeks requested a trade

It was also a move that needed to be done to have any hope of getting Horford without trading away one of the core pieces. Obviously didn't work out in the end, but that's the opportunity cost.

And like others have stated, the team doesn't really need one. Bullock, Johnson, and Hilliard will be splitting something like 12-14 minutes at backup shooting guard. The chances of Van Gundy going to a 10-man rotation (one set backup at every spot) aren't very high. I'd like a combo guard to be brought in for lineup versatility purposes but someone in that mold wouldn't even play that much.

Agree that SVG probably won't have a 10 player rotation, but you still need to stock the bench appropriately. This way there is always someone to step up in case of an injury.
