Prediction: The Pistons will trade for a superstar within 2 years

The Pistons now have a lot of young, good players with great potential. They also have young guys with friendly, tradeable contracts.
When a superstar becomes available from a team looking to rebuild, I expect Trader Stan to swoop in and make something happen.

Agree!
Drummond, King Henry, SJ & RJ project as our starters so all these team & cap friendly contracts we have will pay off.
Boban, JL, Harris, Mook & Ish all are on great deals given the current climate.
KCP is the wildcard IMO. IF he shows improvement this coming season we'll be looking at a massive deal to keep him...might be easier to package our depth for a more cost effective, better fitting piece.
Harris & our pick might net us a good enough SG so we wouldn't really sacrifice depth:
Dre, Boban
King Henry, JL
Mook, SJ, Bull
Acquisition via trade, Hilly
RJ, Ish, Benji

Wouldn't shock me if the right deal comes around. Should have a "Maybe" button.

I hope but am skeptical. I think Stan plan is to be like the Spurs and develop really well. I don't see him trading any of our core guys during his tenure. Hope I am wrong.

I prefer the way we won our championships. Deep teams. Seems we're on the right track. Loved what we showed in the playoffs. I think this year we will surprise a lot of people. We're going to be much more intense for the regular season

Lol. A "maybe" button kind of defeats the idea of making a prediction. Everything is "maybe" when predicting the future.

I think he'll do anything that makes basketball sense. If an opportunity to upgrade never appears, then he'll roll forward with our current group. But based on interviews with Stan, the Pistons are constantly evaluating
every player in the NBA. He said that we had scouts at 95% of the games played last year in the league. They're working so that they're prepared to improve the team, if opportunity knocks.
Drummond, King Henry, SJ & RJ project as our starters
I think anyone's tradeable if the right deal comes up. Dre is probably the only guy who's close to untradeable.

Me too but this salary cap jump basically has teams that are just as deep as us, only with stars instead of regular players.

It depends on Stanley Johnson's development. We need a star outside of Drummond. If Stanley can become a go-to, create his own offense, #1 option scorer and upper level defender I don't think we need to look outside. If he doesn't become that, I think one of KCP or Jackson will be dealt in an upgrade scenario, along with other players and/or picks. I'm not sold on Jackson long term still, I don't think he is a point guard on a true contender. But we signed him for five years, I don't think he's really tradeable until after his third year, so we got to more seasons of him yet, for better or worse.

I agree with everything kilo has said it all depends on if we have another star on our roster already. I don't wanna sell our players just yet and they breakout for another team like Middleton

Also want to chime in and say that I agree with KIlo on most of his comments too.
I think it really comes down to how much Dre can become better, whether he develops passing ability while rolling/doubled or just becoming a better FT shooter that allows him to play basically all quarters if needed. Also hinges on how much better SJ becomes and if he truly has what it takes to be a star. I don't really see anything significant happening outside of Dre becoming a true star, I still think SJ's lack of explosiveness will hold him back among the ranks of the elite combo forwards/guards.
Definitely not sold on RJ either, his defense and lack of elite playmaking will hinder him. Will probably be a decent trade chip with the cap going up down the line.

I voted yes - for next year. This year is about growth of what we have - probably a Baynes trade at some point. Next year is when we look at the roster and say, "Okay, we have ten (maybe eleven - Ellenson) players who deserve good time, let's do a three for one and upgrade."
How about this?
Stanley
Mook
Ellenson
2018 first rounder
For
Anthony Davis
After all of Dell Demps' stupid signings this offseason, Davis will be begging to get out of town. That's a very attractive package for New Orleans......

I think it needs to happen if we're going to actually turn into a championship contender. I don't think it will happen though. I think Stan will continue to try to use under the radar players to get it done.

There might be something to this. Recall what happened last time SVG had an MVP candidate level performer.
Dwight got a big head and essentially got SVG fired.

Dwight has been a cancer almost everywhere he's been since. If I'm SVG (and the rest of the league, for that matter), I'm wary of Dwight Howard, not necessarily star players.

It's not just Dwight. Lebron did it. Rumors had Deron Williams forcing out Jerry Sloan. I mean, it's even happened here, when Rip and crew managed to essentially end Kuester's time. Little different level of stardom with Hamilton, but he was revered here.

This is a problem for like 90% of the NBA. Also if a deal came around I think Stan would make it, he isn't scared to make trades. Its not like Superstars or even high caliber players are put on the block all the time. Lastly we don't really have have great assets like other teams might have unless you are counting Andre, but I would think the whole point is to pair him with that player not trade him for them.

Yes, superstars get coaches fired but I'm not sure they get GMs fired. They'd have to get into Gores' ear to get Stan out.
