Now That the Trades are Tangible

In recent history, we had two trades (or rather, 1 trade and 1 non-trade) where the consequences weren't tangible at the time. Now they are, so I figured it would be a good time to discuss the trades.
Trade 1:
Pistons Out: Donatas Motiejunas
Pistons In: Henry Ellenson
Obviously none of us have any insider info on what the doctors saw, but our final risk assessment came to the conclusion that he was not worth it, especially seeing as how we would have to spend money to re-up him. Who knows how much he will get after the non-trade probably lowered his value, but seeing what Mozgov got, if we had made the trade, we would have had to either lose him or likely pay close to $20 million/year. That's just a little less than we are paying our three FAs combined. This means we probably would've rolled with another year of Blake or Brown as a backup and done little else to address other needs. Motiejunas, if he were to stay healthy, would be a tremendous fit next to Drummond and would improve us for the upcoming season, but the combination of cap flexibility and injury risk makes me glad we ended up with Ellenson who can hopefully provide something similar in a few years.
Trade 2:
Pistons Out: Jodie Meeks
Pistons In: Boban Marjanovich & a future 2nd
Alright, this trade isn't completely tangible yet as we don't know who that future 2nd will be, but essentially we made the move for cap space, whether it be for a shot at Horford or just flexibility to make other moves. The money ended up being available to use on Boban. Could we have used a healthy Meeks this year? Certainly. I would argue that someone of Meeks' abilities at SG was more important than a third C. I think Meeks at his best is a definite upgrade from Hilliard and Bullock - at least for now. However, we have no idea if we would be getting Meeks at his best. Can he play the same way he did for the Lakers anymore? Is he rusty? Likely to get injured again? We may have a logjam at center now, but I love the idea of trying out Marjanovich because he can solve the cap flexibility issues related to Baynes' player option next year.
Overall, I'm happy we made (or didn't make) both moves.
