Ellenson for a two guard?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri Jul 15, 2016 12:40 am

Things shook out where we're two deep at every position, locked up for 3+ years, except the two guard. Just KCP on his last year and a couple of marginal prospects. Which of these two guards would you trade Ellenson for?

Vote yes or no on each prospect.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I am pretty sure the whole reason we just traded our back up SG was because of confidence in Hilliard and Bullocks progression!!!?????

Furthermore, SJ's doing fine as a swing 3-4. I think Ellenson versatility to play 4/5 if far more valuable

I voted. Denzel only, and I'm not 100% on that given his injury history. I'd give it a shot, though.

The Bulls already had a chance to take Ellenson instead of Valentine. Why would they change their minds already?
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Your options aren't great. Why would Chicago trade Valentine for Ellenson when they could have drafted him?
I'm happy to roll with bullock, Hilliard, gbenije and Johnson covering the back up SG spot and keeping Ellenson.

Yes for Valentine and Beasley. I had them rated higher than Ellenson as prospects. No on Richardson, Luwawu, and especially LeVert. Caris' durability concerns are too great to want to trade a first round pick for him. That was a bad move for Brooklyn when they couldn't afford to make one given the situation they're in going forward. But the main reason is I had all three of those guys rated lower than Ellenson as prospects. It's as simple as that.

i was very high on beasley in the pre-draft process and would've said 100% yes if this question was posed right after the draft.

after getting a better look at ellenson's skill set i think i'm okay sticking with him over the guards listed - even beasley.

still really like beasley though.

I didn't like any of these guys except Levert but not for Ellenson, and I'm not that high on him.

The question clarified is two-fold: which of the SGs in this draft would securely beat out Bullock AND which of those project to have better careers than Ellenson could (i.e. not just the NBA ready rookies)?

Buddy Hield and Jamal Murray are the only two I'm sure(?) about.

The last few drafts have been pretty weak for SGs drafted 18 and above.

The only one I would consider is Beasly, but we already passed on him for Ellenson so I take it VanBower likes Ellenson better, and that's good enough for me. Plus with Hilliard and Scrabble it's not like the position is completely devoid of possibilities.

Ellenson seems to be a steal at a position of need. I don't think I'd swap him for any of the 2 guards listed, and I've been saying we need a backup 2 all off season.

I think we can address the backup 2 next season. Though we'll be likely capped out regardless of what happens and land someone in the type like Wayne Ellington or a Jarrett Jack caliber player with what little money we have. The MLE isn't going to attract someone big nor productive.

That's the reality, and it's pretty nauseating. We have to hope SJ takes the next step.

Has a real future with us, my only knock or concern for him is his defense, I really hope he gets better as he gets more comfortable on that side. But we can get a SG without having to give up part of the core, baynes is probably going to be on the block. I'm still hoping for a Gary Harris trade, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Couldn't the Pistons just trade a future 2nd rounder for a SG of the same caliber as any of those players on the list?

Should have a choice of simply "No."
Then I would vote.

I'm a Wolverine and I still agree with you that Harris would be a good pickup. And when you look at Denver's roster it seems like he could be had.

I voted for Valentine only because he has a clearer path to playing time than Ellenson. I have a lot of questions about his ceiling, but it's obvious to me that we would be better in the short term, in 16-17,if we had Valentine.

I think the better question might be what shooting guard would you have rather the Pistons drafted knowing what we do now in hindsight (which is irrelevant, but makes for interesting discussion). My list gets a little longer than the two guys I voted yes for. Valentine is out since he went ahead of Detroit's pick, but I had all of Beasley (it was close with him though), Bembry, Korkmaz, and McCaw ranked ahead of Ellenson. If the Pistons went into the draft with the roster they have now I would have wanted them to go with one of those guys instead.

Deyonta Davis too. He would still bring something different to the big man rotation than what they have now.

I completely agree he can be had, but I don't think SVG is going to be aggressive and pull the trigger. I love the way the roster looks now, I have us top 4 in the east. Adding Harris would put us top 3 knocking on 2, and the reason I say that is the practices. It would be a fight in practice because it would be legit competition at every position except for our stars in Reggie and Andre. Bullock and Hillard are good prospects, but they aren't pushing KCP, not the way Harris would. now I know I might be overselling it a little, but that's what I believe.

Have you guys actually looked around the league At back up two guards? There's not many good ones the shooting guard position maybe the worst in the nba as a group.
