Negative, Ghostrider. He needs to be a #2 pg somewhere or he'll be a distraction.....

A year or two ago, I'd want to take a chance on someone like that since our roster was not that good. Now, we have a solid roster, good teammates, young talent under contract. I don't think we need to take a chance on guys like this anymore. It seems like we have two good options for our 3rd PG (actually 3 if you include Blake).

I'd rather sign Chasson Randle.

18.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 5.0apg, 3.0spg.. . He shot 47.6 percent (20 of 42) from the field and 55 percent (11 of 20) from 3-point range. 40" vertical. 6'7" wingspan.

Maybe? I don't think he's a good fit at all but the same can be said for Smith and they're in the same mold. Not sure the potential distraction in the locker room is worth it though. I would rather the team go for Cole (if healthy) or Larkin if someone is brought in to replace Brown.

I dare say 2016 Ish Smith > 2016 Ty Lawson. I'm okay with Lorenzo Brown as third PG, definitely better than Dinwiddie. Plus the rookie from Syracuse could always surprise when he gets back and is at full health.

I don't really see the point of gambling on a potential chemistry issue since he really wouldn't play much unless somebody gets hurt.

Ish Smith is better at this point of their careers. Ish is gonna be a great back up for us, he runs the point really well. Really reminds me of Brandon Jennings but probably without the fadeaway shot he randomly takes

Ish is a ton like healthy Jennings, except without the jumper -- which is good and bad. You don't get the insane chucking, and you don't get the hot streaks that win games.

Still a good backup and a solid player overall.

I'd rather give the 3rd string PG spot to a younger guy since we have a capable back up now.
Gbenije or Lorenzo brown should get a chance there.

Lance Stephenson, Dion Waiters, Ty Lawson...my answer is no for all three. We aren't even a franchise that is known for it, but we've had too many malcontents and knuckleheads in the last decade to last me a long while. I don't think any of them are the missing piece to our roster as currently constructed, but I do think they could be that jenga piece that makes the whole thing wobble, if not topple over.

For what it's worth below is the list of remaining point guards (aside from the undrafted and international players). I don't think I've missed anybody but let me know if there's someone else that should be on there.

Van Gundy isn't going to cut Brown to bring in a guy at another position either. He likes having at least three point guards on the roster and Gbinije isn't going to cut it even as the third string guy. Maybe the fourth insurance point that the Pistons have had on the roster a few times in the past couple of seasons. That was mostly because of injuries but Gbinije is mostly a shooting guard or a wing too so it's fine.

Taking a flyer on Chalmers wouldn't be to bad. I'm not sure when or if he is going to come back this year tho. Not sure he'd like being the 3rd string PG either

Yeah, I don't think Chalmers has any real on-court value for this upcoming season. A point guard who's coming off of an Achilles injury at 30 years old can't get any more than the minimum even with some teams still having a good amount of cap space. Bad situation for Mario.

Sucks for the Pistons too because I thought he would have been perfect for what they needed a few weeks ago, then I remembered he got hurt. They don't have much use for him now since the third point guard actually needs to be able to play in an emergency situation. I don't think Chalmers can.

I wouldn't put Dion in that group. He's got his warts but he's a young player with intriguing ability who doesn't have the same rap sheet. We probably couldn't afford him anyway. I'd take someone like Lance or Ty on a minimum or close to it. They act out, you show them the door.
