CBS ranked the 30 projected starting lineups

Post#1 » by flow » Wed Aug 3, 2016 2:52 pm

We're 9th.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/ranking-all-30-nba-starting-lineups-hint-warriors-are-pretty-good/

Seems about right to me. Could argue a couple spots.

The Jazz may be a bit high for a team that didn't make the playoffs, but they've added their missing piece - a starting pg - to go along with the other 4.

Props to the site for not making me click through a slideshow.

You know, the Clips may just be the third best team in the league right now. Dallas seems high and the Pacers low.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Grizzlies starting 5 is underrated.

Really good article and really fair, reasonable ratings. Sure there are a few I'd quibble with, but let's face it — I expect us to compete for HCA this season, so ranking our starting lineup #9 overall seems just about perfect.

Speaking of perfect, someone should sticky this quote from our writeup —

They just have to hit shots. Simple as that.

Yeah, it really is that simple. The offense clicks, the ball moves, everyone works together to create easy shots for each other, and easy shots go in. The game is simple when it's played the right way.

I thought it was a really well done. Before I started reading it I was thinking 7, just outside the top 5 but well within the top 10. The only two I really had issue with was Utah and Memphis, but I don't follow either of them closely enough to really gripe about it. If ESPN has us ranked #4 seed in the eEast, then #9 in the league would be about right (I get that it's just ranking the starters, not predicting where each team will finish, but still). I'm just happy to see the National Media giving us some credit, seems like most outlets get hung up on the fact that we sucked for the past 8 years and got swept in the first round.

Yea the only weird ranking I saw in there was the Jazz...and I like the Jazz's starting 5 with youth going forward, but #5...?

I'm in "Believe it when I see it" mode with the Jazz. They've been hyped to make noise for like 3 years now.

Stifle Tower
Favors
Hood
Hayward
George Hill

That's gold! We'll see how it all shakes out but I'm a fan of what Utah has put together over quietly over the last few years

Idk how good Hood is but I don't think Hill is a great PG. He's average at best, doesn't provide a sure offensive firepower. He's just solid. I like the other players but what about their bench? I don't think they're that good, I mean they haven't made the Playoffs and they're supposed to be that good while Atlanta have a good coach with some continuity and under us? Makes no sense

I pay no attention to where anyone is ranked mate. Some talking head with too much time on his hands

What Utah have done should be applauded regardless though.

Hill is a quality glue guy, rock solid on both ends.

Hayward is seriously underrated IMO

Hood can be a weapon

Their bigs are quality.

Other than back up PGs I don't know anything about their bench

Hood arguably became their best scorer last season.

This is just getting completely and utterly out of control with the Jazz.

This is a team that did not make the playoffs last year.

5th best starting lineup and the #1 bench?

Get the **** out of here. The whole world has gone mad.

That team better win 60+games.

Hood is good but he wasn't arguably nothing Hayward is their clear #1 scorer.

I like Utah's roster but their bigs are horribly overrated IMO. I know it's a shooter's league right now but Favors has been the next big thing since, ever, and he's still nothing to write home about really. I'm not on Gobert's nuts either.

I'm not high on that team either.

I honestly don't understand it at all.

If that team was so good they would have been a hell of alot better last year with so many amazing pieces.

The West was weak last year, and only projects as even weaker this year so they might make the playoffs, but according to CBS and seemingly alot of people on realgm, they are looking at 55+wins at least and conference finals with these rankings and projections.

That's just silly.

The Pistons starters are absolutely better as a unit.

I think people are forgetting that Favors & Gobert both missed a fair chunk of games last season.

They're returning 4 starters while adding Exum & Hill

I'm not saying they'll own the West but they certainly look in a very good position moving forward

For all the passes given to the Pistons for how young they were, Utah was even younger, and far more injured.

Gobert is the best rim protector in the league and Favors is one of the best defensive bigs as well, plus he can score in multiple ways. If Heyward, Hood and Hill hit shots the Jazz will be damn good. They added Diaw and Joe Johnson, Exum and Burks were injured last year, Lyles looked pretty good by the end of the year and they have a few other guys that played larger roles for them last season. Plus they're very young as already mentioned.
