Groundbreaking, I know.

Looks like they want all the (cheap) competition they can get for the third point guard spot. No reason not to either really.

EDIT: Jovanovic too.

Nikola Jovanovic and Trey Freeman have signed camp deals with the Detroit Pistons.

Jovanovic played for the Lakers and Magic in Summer League. Jovanovic averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in his junior season at USC.

Freeman played for the Rockets in Summer League. Freeman averaged 22.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in his senior season at Old Dominion.

More likely a GR Drive assigned player signing. I assume whichever one of Lorenzo Brown or Ray McCallum loses out here will be cut and look to sign elsewhere or overseas rather than playing for $25K in the D-League.

Freeman might end up with the Drive if/when the Pistons cut him, but for them to assign Trey directly there he would have to make the 15-man roster.

I still think Brown takes the third point guard role pretty easily.

In no way, shape, or form should the Pistons be interested in Trey Burke. I know he was somewhat better last year, but he's still pretty bad (imagine KCP's offensive efficiency combined with Reggie's lack of defense). I'd also rather keep my fond memories of his run at UM instead of swearing at him constantly for sucking up the joint for the Pistons.

I meant as an affiliate player.

From late September to late October, NBA teams trim their rosters from a maximum of 20 players invited to training camp to 15 on opening night. The “affiliate player rule” allows them to retain up to four of the players that they waive.

Players designated by an NBA team as affiliate players are automatically allocated to that team’s NBA Development League affiliate if they choose to sign an NBA D-League contract.

Add Nikola Jovanovic as well, signing a camp deal to be here and probably in Grand Rapids as an affiliate player. I think the Pistons get the scrubbiest of camp signings because we're carrying a full roster and there is no chance for the camp bodies to make the squad.
