CONFIRMED. Stans offense getting bigger.

In a thread awhile back I stated that Stan only used a few plays, over and over remembering that he said he wanted to keep it basic for the year. Well, read on and get excited;

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2016/09/28/van-gundy-putting-puzzle-pieces-together/91228750/

“It’s a lot of guys playing multiple positions and it’s going to take time to get through it. A good part of what we put in today was not stuff we ran last year.”

With so many players in transition last season, Van Gundy didn’t get to use all of the players in the roles that he had envisioned. Sometimes when he did, it meant giving players a crash course in trying to play that new position, such as Andre Drummond trying to guard a smaller Kevin Love on the perimeter in the playoff series against the Cavaliers.

“Getting ready to go into the season, I want to be better prepared. I didn’t have us as prepared as we needed to be — and we’re going to change that.”

“I decided this year we’re going to have those guys go through this all the time,” he said. “At least they’ll have gone through the offense and they shouldn’t have anything they don’t know.”

This year is going to be real interesting with Stan going deep into the playbook, and making a real commitment to truly making this team as versatile as possible. It could also mean a slow start, but I believe it will be worth it.

In stan we trust.

I happy cause SVG seems like a stubborn dude when it comes to his lineups.

Yet to be seen what he does tho. I'm wondering if he is going to use the versatility and try some different lineups...... not play our whole bench at once. Might be fine doing that this year tho

Some of us have complained about the simplistic offense and how it doesn't take full advantage of some of our guys...

It was understandable after the Harris trade to a certain extent though

Now we've gotta incorporate JL & Ish we might as well revamp a lot of our sets so we do take advantage of our guys.

The key to running a successful Ship is adapting to change. I remember in Orlando when Battie went down to injury, SVG intended to play Hedo at PF with Shard at SF. Then, before that could happen, Hedo got injured as well forcing Shard to play PF. That changed the entire dynamics of the team which changed the Defensive and Offensive philosophy which in term led them to a finals appearance as Shard was an elite defender playing next to Dwight. Thus, SVG is stubborn and will go with what he is comfortable with and what works, but won't be afraid to change if things go south.

most people would be surprised how many "genius innovations" in sports weren't planned by the coach. a lot of it is trial and error and a lot of those trials happen because of circumstance (like injuries).

iirc correctly steve kerr didn't plan for the warriors "death lineup" to be their best, let alone the best lineup in the league.

Stan hinted about a real possibility of going with a 10 deep rotation... 10th man?

Jackson/Smith
KCP/Bullock
Johnson/Morris
Harris/Leuer
Drummond/Baynes

That will be our top 10. Throw in Boban and we can easily go 11 deep. I doubt we will though.

It will be hard to keep Johnson or Mooks minutes down as just a backup SF.
It's sounding more like SVG is toying with several interchangeable parts (less predetermined roles).
So you're thinking Bullock is the 10th regular?... yeah that could be the case.

Unless Stan has fallen out of love with KCP, no way Pope only plays 30mpg. He'll get his 35-40 one way or another. I also think Leuer is going to be playing more then any of us think. Stan has had nothing but praise for him out of practice.

Man we got a deep ass team this year. Damn.

Our bench would win more games then the Sixers last year for sure.

Van Gundy talked about that with Reddick on his podcast a while back. Both were pretty certain that Turkoglu absolutely did not want to play PF. Lewis was more open to the change though so when Hedo got dinged up it all came together a bit easier.
