I guess nobody wants to talk about Gigabytes, but it would be great if our second round pick panned out. Preseason stories are always best viewed with skepticism, so I understand reluctance to say too much.

Gbinije is a good player, the only thing that made him fall in the draft was his age.

There is no room for him on the wing, unless he can beat out Bullock and Hilliard for the backup SG spot and SVG commits to a 10 man rotation. I don't understand why they gave up upon the idea to play him at PG so quickly. This is where he could help a lot.

If I recall, they just gave up on the idea of him playing PG for this season, giving him a chance to get his feet wet without putting too much pressure on him having to learn the system from multiple positions. And who knows, Bullock will be a free agent this offseaon and maybe Gbinije will beat out Hilliard. There could be a roll for him very easily.

Well the article has SVG praising him for being willing to move the ball, which is what he's stewing about recently. Also said he'd been hitting some shots, which is something they need. It'll be interesting to see him play.

Nice to see the practice production translated to game production. Gbinije showing out like Bullock did last year. Unlike Bullock, this shouldn't be a surprise. He's a good player with great basketball instinct.

Gbinige has a legit shot at regular season rotation mins. He's also 24 already and isn't going to be treated like most teen rookies just from a IQ and maturity standpoint alone with SVG.

looking at the history of 2nd round rookies being day 1 ready over 2 guys with experience. I heard what SVG said, but he also said its one game, he's rested and don't over react. Especially in the preseason against the literal worst team in the leauge

Ain't nothing wrong with Benji - he's mature and plays the right way.

Give him minutes and see what happens - if it's good then cool.

Its a really good problem to have too many good/decent wings. Gone are the days Michael Curry or Kyle Singler had to start with even worse backups. I am really curious if SVG will expand the rotation to 10 guys, all of Gbinije, Bullock or Hilliard would bring good shooting with them. I think it would benefit the whole team and until Stanley shows he improved his shot and decision making he should not get the backup SG minutes.

how about kcp?

If he beats out Bullock we might as well try and trade Reggie for a point guard and roll with KCP|Gbinije|Hilliard at the two guard.

He probably will. He does everything Bullock already can but with better ball handling and IQ.

Pistons are in no position to trade any of their good shooters. They should be trading the guys who can't shoot to make room to play more of the guys who can. Can't just rely on 1-2. You need a stable of em, and then odds are at least 1-2 will be on every night. With KCP/SJ, odds are neither are on every night. And when you run a system that's basically 'live or die by the 3', you want the guys who give you the best odds of succeeding there, and the more of em you have, the better the odds.

Pistons are in no position to play 20 games with only two rostered point guards. No real need to carry four shooting guards (five if you count Johnson).

So we trade a guy who could give us great shooting for the next 4+ yrs for a 20 game backup PG who will never play again after?

I agree we need an answer there, but trading longterm assets for temporary fixes just doesn't add up in our favor to me.

I'd rather just give Gbinije a chance there. Or do a PG-by-committee and have guys take turns initiating offense on the 2nd unit.

Yeah, I'm with Todd on this one, we shouldn't be counting our chickens before they hatch. I think we need to let this play out a little bit longer and see who can distinguish himself from the other two before we go dumping guys. We still have the D-League and RJ won't be gone that long.

I don't think the Pistons re-sign both Bullock and KCP. And even if they can't extend KCP now, I don't think they extend Bullock at $7Mish a year if they intend on matching any offer for KCP.

I also wouldn't characterize Bullock as a great shooter.

So it a rent-a-player PG for first 20 games, versus a expiring DNP-CD who will walk at the end of the season.
