Annual GM Survey

http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/icymi-gm-survey This week, the NBA released the results of their annual GM survey, where general managers responded to 48 different questions about the best teams, players, coaches, fans, and offseason moves (and they weren’t allowed to vote for their own team or personnel) and if you check out the results here, you’ll see the Pistons on the list. The highlights:
10% of GMs who responded pick Pistons to finish 3rd in the East and 14.3% pick the team to finish 4th.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope received votes for most likely to have a breakout season and best perimeter defender
KCP Gonna Prove You all Wrong!!!!
GMs voted Henry Ellenson 4th as the biggest steal in the draft for where he was selected (18th overall)
Ellenson is legit!!!
Ish Smith, who will be our starting point guard on opening night while Reggie Jackson recovers from knee tendinitis, received votes as the fastest player with the ball.
Need a new nickname for Ish. Speedy?
And finally, Stan Van Gundy received votes for best in-game adjustments and best defensive schemes.
I always knew SVG was one of the best X's and O's coaches in the NBA. Now, he is recognized as one by his peers! SVG for President!!

There is not a chance in all hell that SVG trades KCP. He is the epitome of the type of player SVG covets. Posters here should just get used to it and accept him.

Was reading this earlier, very interesting. Here are the full results for anyone interested
http://www.nba.com/gmsurvey/2016.
Indiana stands out to me as being overrated (partly because they are ranked ahead of us

), but also because they got a 2nd place vote and a handful of 3rds. I don't think Teague is
that much of an improvement, and their coaching is a downgrade losing Vogel. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Isn't Teague a DOWNGRADE from George Hill? That's how I've been looking at it. Team doesn't make a whole lot of sense on paper.

I think he might be, but apparently NBA GMs disagree

“It seems like a lot of people – I don’t mean teams – but a lot of people who do the analysis of all these moves are a year behind in terms of their vision and the way they analyze moves,” Van Gundy said. “We got killed for signing Reggie for too much money and then we were hit with virtually every team in the league wanting to trade for him because he’s locked in at what now is a very, very good salary.”
“I don’t know that they think he would be (available),” he said. “They just want to see how hard they could push it. Initially, we got criticized at the size of the contract, so maybe they think we’re going to react to that. He’s just always been a guy who’s had great interest.”
And that interest picked up, even, as news of his knee injury broke.
“He’s a guy with a great, great contract and those guys are all looking. And then people think you’ll panic a little bit when a guy has an injury. He’s a very good player on a good contract and when we signed it there were a whole lot of people criticizing it. It’s people who look at things differently and in the moment and hadn’t adjusted to what’s going on. There’s been interest in him and there’s always interest in good players. There’s interest in Andre (Drummond), obviously, and interest in Reggie. People are always just seeing what you’re thinking and seeing if you’ll move on any of those guys and what it would take. And Reggie’s a guy that drew really, really good interest.”
Anything that made the Pistons think twice?
“No. Not even close,” Van Gundy said. “We haven’t had any interest in any of that.”

Actually i was watching Indiana preseason game and they are deep with a lot of good talent. It'll depend on how they play defense but scoring is not going to be a issue

I think SVG is an excellent big game player.
Each team that called now knows that whatever offer they made wasn't close...and that there's been a lot of interest than maybe anyone thought.
That's the smart play in an auction where no one else knows who is bidding or what they're offering

I'd say no, Teague is slightly above, but they're close. Different players.

I'm expecting Indiana is going to be pretty good. PG is special, and they have some nice young talent. Teague is a proven point. Rodney is what he proved to be here, a solid but streaky bench player.
Pistons haven't been treated too badly in the predictions, especially given the Reggie situation. Bound to be interesting.
Couple of days the real games start!

i believe Stuckeys been in the running for 6th man every year since going to Indy. He's instant offense and gets to the line which racks up fouls for PG and teague. Add developing Turner and the other complimentary pieces, Ellis, Jefferson etc. I am going to hate see them on the schedule. Again i question there D, but at this point they have proven more than we have

How are they more proven than us?
New coach
New starting PG (Teague)
Increased role for Turner
New starting PF (Thad)
New big minute bench big (Al)
Where we return the same coach and starting 5...once RJ returns

New coach
Nate Mcmillian was the assistant coach and has a pretty good track record at least in NBA circles(per reports)
New starting PG (Teague)
Literally owns the pistons every time we play. I saw some arguing its a down grade but teague is a allstar pg
Increased role for Turner
New starting PF (Thad)
New big minute bench big (Al)

A lot more experience on that team, they have PG who is the best player on both teams. I think they added pieces , like the pistons, who many are like meh, but end up being really good players for their system and roster.

I don't consider Indiana "more proven" than the Pistons. The teams are similar in situation, and weren't far apart last year. They each have shuffled the deck in terms of their roster, and are waiting to see how their youngsters progress. I wasn't saying I'm sure they'll be better than the Pistons, but I expect they'll be right there.

I really wonder what level of interest RJ generated from other PG-void teams. Likely Jazz would've been one as with the Nets and Philly. I can't really think of any at the moment on other teams, maybe Pacers before the Teague trade? Definitely Sacramento too now that I think about it. Just offer DMC straight up for RJ.
I can see a bizarre scenario where RJ gets a lot of interest this coming off season. Especially Philly.
