Our 9 man rotation

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Thu Nov 17, 2016 5:43 am

Looks like its our starters with a bench of:
Ish backing up Reggie for 16-18 minutes a night.
Stanley backing up KCP for 14-16 minutes a night.
Jon Leuer backing up both F spots... 3 man rotation at SF/F so Jon gets nearly 30 MPG
Baynes backing up Dre for 16-18 minutes a night.

Seems like our bench, once Reggie is back starting, is going to be one of the top 2 or 3 benches in the NBA. Never did I think Stanley was going to be the weakest link in the bench this year but its looking that way. I think Reggie being out is really going to make Ish that much better of a backup PG as he's gotten more and more comfortable playing with his teammates than he would have only coming off the bench. Jon has been a great pickup thus far and has far exceeded my expectations and Baynes if everything you could want out of your backup center.

No but he plays PF, and Morris or Harris plays SF... They're both pretty able to play both forward positions.

It says Jon backing up both forward spots. So I just wondered if you meant him playing SF. Mook and Harris can do both

Pretty much, Jon, Tobias, and Marcus have gotten almost all of the SF/PF minutes. Its a 3 man rotation there and with as well as Jon has played that makes sense.

Originally I thought that Stanley would be able to get some of those SF minutes but that's looking less and less likely.

I have been advocating for Mook to come off the bench for some time. I think it's time to make some room for Ellenson to find some minutes behind Leuer and make SJ the full time backup SG which is going to be kind of bad.

Leuer has been about the best player on the team thus far, I can't wait until Jackson comes back and Ish Smith goes to the bench. Then the Pistons will have one of the better starting units and benches in the league.

Imho Stan is doing wrong with the rotation in order to keep Stanley's confidence (which makes sense because Stanley is Stan's biggest bet). I don't like Stanley as a SG, Hilliard will be more useful playing there. We need people who move the ball fast and SJ is not that type of player.

I would go (when everybody is healthy) with:

PG: Reggie 30, Ish 18 (if he has a bad day we can use Udrih)
SG: KCP 32, Bullock/Hilliard 16
SF: Morris 30, Johnson 18
PF: Harris 30, Leuer 18
C: Drummond 30, Baynes 18

I'm sorry Baynes has got to go, the only person that can block a shot on this team is Dre, I need shot blocking and free throws out of my back-up center more than I need slow stout and clumsy...

Shotblocking is overrated bro.

Being a physical presence in the paint is far more important than swatting 2 shots a game cause you deter players simply by being there!

Forcing dudes to pull up is better than trying to swat a lay up or dunk...

Or do you propose letting dudes get all the way to the rim?

It's like soccer - strikers should never get 1 on 1 with the goal keeper - if they do someone **** up!

i agree to a certain extent but from what im watching, no one is afraid to drive on baynes, and he never leaves the ground t contest unless its another big. i see him as an anchor, and not a defensive anchor, a anchor that slows down boats. with reggie jackson coming back we are going to do nothing but play faster, and in my honest opinion he is going to get exposed more.
