Defensive concerns with tobias at pf???

Post#1 » by StunnaStan » Thu Nov 17, 2016 6:44 pm

Not saying hes not playing hard, but when guys like love, Aldridge, and zinger are towering over him, there's only so much he can do. How big of a issue will having a small pf have in the long run??? What's yall take on the matter

That's why we signed Leuer to all that cash.

The idea of having Drummond there offsets those kinds of mismatches. And, if they become a problem during the game, there is such a thing called Substitution which works effectively. This is a non-issue. Heck, Draymond Green is shorter and he plays Center alot.

Anyways, SVG is a fan of small PF's like he had with Shard in Orlando.

And Leuer is worth every single penny and then some.

He could easily fetch a larger amount but we basically got him for a discount since he's so low key. I would like to see him start at PF over Mook and give Tobias and KCP the reins to the offense since they both seem to be on a roll in terms of scoring/assists as of late.

KP will give anyone a tough time. He's freakishly long and talented. We need Tobias to hold his own against Love.

Harris can't defend SFs either so having Mook come off the bench doesn't help. Maybe Tobias should be the one coming off the bench, maybe we should adjust the lineup for matchups beforehand.

Harris defense is my last concern.

Tobias when fed the ball right plays so good though, like near all-star caliber. I don't think he should be coming off the bench.

But it is a good problem to have I guess.

I agree. I think he might play worse off the bench. Morris game is suited for the bench. I don't want to bench or talk about benching (I know I am) until we get RJ back and see how it goes.

Morris iso heavy game is clearly better suited to a 6th man role than Tobias. The hope of many was that Stanley would eventually push for that starting spot.

But I'm not going to start thinking about any starting lineup changes until after we get at least 12-15 games with Reggie back. I think we'll be just fine.

^That and Mook loves to fadeaway after post ups. He's similar to Tobias but Tobias is definitely more mobile and plays a better suited game in this day and age.

That's not even knocking Mook since his defense is clearly present, but I think he'd look more consistent in his scoring if he were going up against bench fodder.

We don't need a starting line-up change. Why don't we wait till RJ comes back and then start talking about the line-up?

Honestly, Tobias defense is the last of my concerns.

Mook was money for us down the stretch last year so I wouldn't give up on him now. We really have 3 quality options at SF which nice.

If Tobias can offensively make up for it , it doesn't matter. Defensively he's at least decent and depending on the matchup above average.

I've been very pleased with our C rotation. I've been very pleased with our F rotation. Once Reggie is back our PG rotation is going be pretty damn good as well. Hell, even KCP has been shooting much better. About the only thing we can actually complain about these days is Stanleys development and he's still just a kid.

Unless a superstar falls into our lap there isn't much for us to concern ourselves with this season outside of internal development. Reggie re-developing chemistry with Dre. Tobias & Mook re-adjusting to life with fewer touches. Fans actually appreciating our much improved bench.

I'm not concerned about Harris in the least... I think he may be our leading scorer this year. No way you can slide him to a bench role.

Having a guy come off the bench is not the same as "benching" a player.

Defensively Tobias might struggle a bit but we really need to utilize him better offensively to counter his woes

Having him run PnR with Dre would really make the opposition uncomfortable since you never see 2 bigs defending the PnR so they lack that awareness

Also need to run Harris off some screens to tire out these bigger guys he defends - make them chase him!

It ain't rocket science - make them play "our" way more so we take advantage of Harris not being a lumbering oaf

Who's the quality third option?
