Start Beno Udrih

And make him back up when Reggie gets back. I was a big fan of the Ish Smith signing in July, but now I'm starting to believe there's a reason he's been on so many teams in his career.

No thanks, not in our current set up.

If you were gonna use someone else as the focal point of the offense and have them handle the ball most of the time then what the hell, why not start Beno! At least he can shoot!

But in our current system where the PG pounds the air outta the ball I don't think he'd be any better than Ish really.

What he brings as a shooter you lose due to foot speed

Eh, I could go either way on this. Pharaoh makes a very solid point, but a case could be made for allowing Ish to develop chemistry with the 2nd unit. We're already going to be disrupting the starting lineup as Reggie works himself back into game shape so having a little chemistry and consistency with our bench might not be a terrible idea. With as bad as we're playing it's not like we have a whole lot to lose.

I think Beno looks better mainly because he's playing against second units. Switch them and Ish will be the one looking more impressive. Neither of them ought to be playing against first stringers but when you've got an injury, them's the breaks. As Cow mentioned, Ish will eventually need to develop chemistry with the second unit.

Ish is out of control and destroys our offense. Udrih is more poised, can shoot and play off the ball while Tobias or Mook handle the offense. He fits better with our actual starters, so is an easy YES.

While Beno may not prove any better, they have to at least try something. I doubt he could be any worse. To just do nothing shouldn't be acceptable if there's a chance that Beno could win us an extra game or two while waiting for Reggie. That could be the difference in making the playoffs or not.

Right now, Ish is in the 19th percentile of pnr efficiency shooting 32% off pnr, yet is 6th in pnr frequency. This can't continue.

Beno leads the league in pnr frequency (min 50 poss) and is in the 63rd percentile in efficiency shooting 46% off pnr.

Not only would it be better for our chances of winning, but he could be making a huge difference in Drummond's game too.

I don't think its worth doing at this point. Reggie will be back within a week. I'm not even convinced we'd do any better with Beno running the point longer minutes. The guy is decent but slow/old like Steve Blake.

I honestly think Ish was signed for later on...

Fast forward 2 more seasons when our guys can actually shoot from deep...

Ish pushing the pace with shooters spreading the floor makes me moist!

I cant wait to see Ish running the second unit as originally designed. If he bombs, play Beno, simple as that.

And how else would score in the starting unit? Beno has been a great pickup off waivers, but he's a little too shot happy. If Ish had his mid-range jumper, we wouldn't be able to afford him.

Kind of surprising he hasn't developed a shot like that, to be honest.

Don't need Beno out there with the starters taking shots and allowing penetration...

Need Beno out there to give the bench guys an escape route (Beno with the jumper) or to get into their spots (Beno with direction)

Is he a better shooter than Ish? Of course.

Is he a better initiator? Yeah

But we're not looking at individuals are we? We're looking at what's best for the group

I confess I was wondering if Beno might not need to be considered. Then Ish started acting like he's finding some rhythm with the starters. I'm sure his hitting a little warmer shooting streak is helping as well. He can put pressure on an opposing team, but everyone has to run with him.

Both are capable back ups and one is being asked to start until Reggie is back..of course Beno is going to look better against 2nd unit guys..this is silly.
