According to rotoworld Reggie Bullock tore the meniscus in his left knee on Wednesday and will be out indefinitely.

Does anybody know the usual timeline for a meniscus tear recovery? I think we need to give Hilliard a chance to earn his spot and not just go with Stanley Johnson again out of position.

I'm sorry for him, he's in contract year and injuries are not leaving him alone, hurting so much his market value.
I'm not here rooting for us overpaying him, though.

Bad luck for Reggie and the team. He's had periods where his shooting was a real asset. I think Hilliard will get his chances.

I just noticed Johnson is shooting over 40% right now. As funny as it sounds, that's an improvement. Maybe he gets it going. Still rooting for the kid. This just means more minutes for SJ.

Let Hilliard get some run

Pretty disappointing news. If healthy and actually playing Bullock is a decent asset on the second unit. Pretty much what you need/expect backing up Caldwell-Pope in a rotation that offers very few consistent minutes for a backup shooting guard.
Oh well. I would like to see Hilliard out there. Maybe even Gbinije. But the most likely outcome is Johnson being forced into a role/position that doesn't suit his strengths at all. Again.

Stan has to be a little more flexible with his rotations. There's more than enough versatility on the roster to do so.

I agree that Stanley isn't a 2, but the kid HAS TO PLAY. I'm ok with brief benchings if he's playing really poorly or stupid, but he needs minutes to develop into whatever the hell he's going to be. I'll be saying the same thing about Ellenson next year.
Marcus Morris isn't special -- he's underpaid and a leader and usually solid, but SJ needs minutes at the 3. If that means limiting Morris to 28 minutes a game (because Tobias is going to play some there with Leuer at the 4), so be it. If that means ten minutes a game at the 2 for SJ, so be it, although he's a questionable fit there.
As for the injury, it's unfortunate for Bullock, but it makes our decision easier. He's not going to be with the team next year unless he's super cheap, because OK production in a limited role and unreliable health is a million a year max kinda player. He's run into the injury bug enough times in his year+ here that we need to move on and get Hilliard ready to potentially be the longer term backup 2.

I wonder how much money he turned down during extension talks.

Bullock is Meeks part two, except he isn't oft injured but just doesn't get playing time.
A healthy Meeks is exactly what this team needs and it's sad Bullock will be out a long time before coming back. Time to bring out Hilliard I guess, I can't stand watching SJ play the 2.

the timing of this injury really sucks for bullock, he was starting to overtake johnson as the backup SG which would be huge for him, being in a contract year and all. hope he returns fully healthy.
if i'm not mistaken a torn meniscus usually puts you out a month or so, but that depends on the severity of the tear and method of recovery (surgery vs. rest).

Trade for Casspi straight up. Kind of joking but may actually work for both teams.

That doesn't help Detroit at all. Casspi is a forward and the Pistons have more than enough of those to go around.

Damn, finally made the rotation and got hurt asap. He's been our best 3pt shooter and we really could have used his shooting. More time for Stanley i guess. I still would give Hilliard or Gbinije a shot at backup SG.

I think Casspi can play some SG, with Reggie hopefully coming back soon there likely won't be many minutes there anyway. If Casspi comes cheap his shooting would be a welcomed addition, he would also be a nice backup plan if Stanley starts to struggle again.

Casspi would be a SJ insurance plan since he's a pure spot up shooter and really nothing more. Which might be something that we need since none of our guys have really stepped up to fill the true/pure 3 and D role as of yet.
But I don't think we do anything when it's all said and done. We need a blockbuster trade that involves many core assets for this team to really go anywhere IMO.

Nah. He's a three or a four, not a three or a two. Much more along the lines of Harris or Morris than Johnson.

It all depends if they try to repair the meniscus (most likely) or just remove the smaller part. Obviously it depends on where the tear is. I had one and they just removed the smaller part, although my recovery time was overshadowed by a microfracture which was done at the same time. Regardless, if they are doing a repair, it will be a month+ for sure.

How about we try to pick up Stauskas? He seems to be finally getting a little PT and his shooting is quite good.

What would we give Philly for him?
You know they need guards - any guard at all tbh
I think they keep him just for his long bombs
Joel/Okafor
Saric/Okafor/Simmons
Simmons/Saric/Covington
Rookie 2017/Nik
Rookie 2017/Sergio/TJ
Full of potential, trust the process, wait until Joel is fully unleashed!
There's the small matter of what they do with Noel though
