Ive seen some overreactions in some threads as of late concerning the Pistons thus far and i wanted to put it all into context for everyone.
1.)No reggie jackson for the start of the season, the teams starting point gaurd.
2.)Two brand new point gaurds running the team.
3.)Several new bench pieces learning the system, and the ropes.
The team is now starting to get some rythm while trying to reintegrate Reggie into the scheme. Its been a little bumpy but that was to be expected to some degree.
Now on to the good stuff.
The team over the last 10 are 7-3 and are starting to look dominant for stretches.
Now some stats;
Last years bench VS this years bench(first # last years)
1.)PPG-26.2(30th) 28.5 (27th)
2.)RPG-13.9(26th) 16.0 (15th)
3.)ASG-6.5(22nd) 7.0 (18th)
4.)+/- -0.8(21st) +1.3 (4th)
Now these bench stats are all with Ish in the starting group so those will all go up now that Reggie is back. These are all very promising and excellent stats without Ish. Yeah, the bench is that much better this year. The +/- stat is the biggest and music to everyones ears as last year, like clockwork when the bench came in, it was a disaster almost everytime.
Now for some stats for the team as a whole for the 25 games in;
DEFENSIVE STATS
(First numbers are last years team)(OPP-opponents points in paint)
1.)DEF RTNG-103.4(13th) 100.4 (3rd)
2.)OPP-44.4(23rd) 39.3 (4th)
3.)OP 2ND CH-10.7(1st) 9.9 (1st)
4.)OP PT TO-14.5 (5th) 12.1 (1st)
5.)OP FG%-46.1 (21st) 43.2 (5th)
6.)OP 3P%-35.5 (16th) 32.8 (3rd)
7.)OP +/- -0.6 (14th) -3.8 (8th)
8.)OP PTS-101.4 (12th) 96.0 (2nd)
The Pistons have become an excellent defensive team so far this year.
Only touched on defense so far, and the current record and 7-3 streak over the last 10. Ill do offense later but they are simliar especially the teams FG%.
So chins up, the team is stout defensively and it just got back its starting Point gaurd. It only gets better from here people.

Re: Some perspective on the season so far.
We were incredibly fortunate that Ish came in and ran the show the way he did and that Beno was gifted to us and over performed. I don't buy the whole, new bench pieces needed to gel because we as a team have more chemistry than most teams returning all 5 starters and 3 of our 5 bench pieces from last season that's a huge advantage for us and can be seen by the fact that we lead the league with fewest turnovers. Most teams have more turnover every year than we've had this past year. Next year our chemistry should be incredibly good if no major moves are made before then.

I feel at times we shoot too many mid range jumpers, both Morris and KCP need to try and drive to the basket more.

We certainly shoot more middies than most teams -- we shoot a low number of threes (second least per game in the NBA), we don't get to line and don't drive a ton (pre-Reggie, mostly, but lowest FT attempts in the league), and yet the offense isn't bad because we have a bunch of good mid-range shooters. It's not the current trend, but it's OK. We defend the three and keep teams off the line as well. We're the anti-Hardens.

We've also played a lot of games, including back to backs and road games compared to most of the league. There is s lot to like.
But I'm still gonna lose my **** every time it looks like we take a game off. I can handle poor play, but lack of effort makes me wanna stab somebody in the face with a rusty spoon.

Is that not a sign that at the very least we read opposing team's D well?
Every single team in the league is trying to limit shots at the rim, FT attempts and 3s (especially corner 3s)
So the mid range jumper is gonna be there if you want it...but you still gotta make them.
And we're pretty good at that

Sure but settling for them is a different story. Shooting a open jumper off a screen is fine but stop and pulling up, contested iso, and fadeaways are just bad shots its a reason why we're last in the league in free throw attempts.
We have good mid range shooter but that doesn't change that fact.

I truly like the Pistons this year and when Reggie gets into game shape the team will be better still. See the team somewhere from 3rd to 6th competing against Charlotte, Chicago & Boston. My best guess would finish 4th with Charlotte 3rd. think you have better depth with Reggie back than either the Bulls or Boston.

I think Boston starts rolling sooner or later...we finish 4th (hopefully)
Play Charlotte in the first round where Kemba & Batum do enough to win a couple of games for them but we win in 6 as KCP shines brightest for us
2nd round means we play the Cavs again...and again we play them tougher than all but the GSW but lose in 7.
By the time the series is over KCP & Dre will be universally viewed as our best players, Stanimal will have arrived & we'll be viewed as the "next big thing"
A man can hope lol

Mid-range shots are KCP and Mook's bread and butter. They can hit those with regularity. Both guys are streaky 3 pt shooters. Im ok with them launching from 3 but the games where it isnt falling, take a step inside the arc and shoot. They need to try other ways to score.

You know what, people were saying that about Prince and Rip taking too many mid range jumpers. Good thing that didn't cost them a Ship.
