Love Stan the GM, Hate Stan the Coach

Shaq may have been on to something when he called Stan a "master of panic".
I think Stan is a talented GM but should pick a coach that can bring some positivity to the locker room and games. His negativity seems draining at times.
Discuss.

so i am assuming you didn't even bother to read CGC's thread about exactly that but in a much more detailed manner for discussion.

I watched Stanley Johnson make a mistake with like 34 seconds left when we were up by 10 and I was very disappointed in how Stan the coach acted towards him.. Maybe it just looks worse than it is on camera.

SJ really doesn't have a lot of leeway to be making mistakes considering how he started this season.

Every coach is going to do things that annoy fans... He's definitely not perfect but he is better than anyone we've had in the last 10 years by a mile.

So you're privileged to all the interaction that Stan has with the players huh?
I seriously doubt that...

Agreed. I feel like he fails to prepare our team for games and I hate his rotations. I love him as our president though.

I'd rather not!
What we see, read & hear is like 5% of SVGs interactions with his players.
Some people are trying to argue that of the 5% some of it is bad.
Really? You're kidding me, right?
I bet we all have a moment or 2 a day where we think "I could have handled that better" or "I coulda done this instead of that and it woulda worked out better" or something similar
Do we expect SVG to be perfect in every single way?

hate is a little bit too much, but I do agree he's too rigid. a little bit "old", 2017 basketball is not 2009 basketball.

There were threads like this on the Magic board during the Magic's season they went to the finals.
Problem is that some fans expect a coach to act how they think a coach should act. Shaq was critical of everyone and was a big baby himself. Outside of that Dwight situation in Orlando, no player looks back critically on Stan including Dwight now. That says more than some fan watching a game feeling bad for a player who is getting scolded for making mistakes. Maybe, people should start watching Lifetime instead of pro sports, lol.

People complaining about millionaire's feeling for not doing his work in the right way while if they were who made a mistake would be unemployed.

Actually if I didn't offer a different perspective I would've never been promoted. Being a yes man can only get you so far

I agree we are only privy to 5% of Stan's behavior, however this small sample shows he over reacts to the smallest errors and tends to display negative body language the majority of the time. I highly doubt he is any different outside of the games.
Negativity is draining. Constant criticism is not productive. High expectations can be set without being a Cassandra. See Belichick and Pop.
Probably runs in the family. Not surprised his brother was strangled by a player.

recently the spurs came out flat in a game and this is what gregg popovich said to the media afterwards:
"If you're a plumber and you don't do your job, you don't get any work. I don't think a plumber needs a pep talk. A doctor botches operations, and he's not a doctor anymore. If you're a basketball player, you come ready. It's called maturity. It's your job."

also, arguably the best coaches in the nba are of the critical nature. pops, thibs, carlisle and SVG are famous for being critical of their players but the results speak for themselves.

Critical sure, but they don't walk around constantly waiving their hands while sulking.

For everyone who dislikes Stan as a Head Coach so much I would like to challenge you to do some serious personal reflection on all the HC's that were in Detroit between Flip and Stan.

He should hand out orange slices and juice boxes at halftime too
