Time to start Stanley Johnson

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Sat Dec 31, 2016 3:54 am

If no trades are going to be made, this is the move that may spark something with this team. Some guys can never figure out how to come off the bench, maybe that's the case here. At this point, what can it hurt? We are losing anyway. Let's play this ****er 30 mins a game and see if we have anything there. If he bombs and we continue to lose, we'll have a good pick in a draft that is being compared to the great drafts. I'm growing sick of watching this team and I'm a lifer. I'd still be interested in tuning in If Mook and Harris were our first off the bench. Stanley may be the shot in the arm we need.

I'm all for this. If we keep losing games and end up 10 games under .500, I think we need to trade anyone and everyone we can for picks, young players, or expiring contracts. Whatever the reason is, this team just doesn't have it this year. We need to stockpile draft picks and see where our young players are at/can realistically be in the future. The only players I would not trade would be KCP (he's really starting to blossom and I think he can still get better), Stanley, Ellenson, and probably Leuer. Everyone else should be traded.

I'd much rather play Gbinije, Hilliard, Stanley and Ellenson big minutes and lose doing that than lose with our current rotation. At least then we'd be grooming our talent for the future, and be watching guys who actually care about the game.

Drummond would look good in a Celtics jersey.

I would trade Drummond to them for the Brooklyn pick so fast. Best of both worlds too, since he (obviously) wouldn't help Brooklyn at all, so we wouldn't have to worry about the value of the pick going down. And then we could see the potential of that Horford/Drummond duo we all wanted before he went to BOS.

He's been awful this season and is still getting consistent minutes to develop, SJ needs to work his tail off in the off season if he aspires to be a valuable player in this league, right now Harris & Leuer should remain starters.

We are 5 games below .500 at this point, so the season is still salvageable. Rather than mail it in I believe SVG should be aggressively pursuing trades and adjusting his coaching strategy.

I'm all for starting Stanley. Not sure how Tobias or Marcus would take that considering Stanley hasn't played well. But I'm about fed up with the direction we're going right now so let's hope svg does something drastic.

I think Stanley has looked pretty good lately (especially compared to how lost he looked at the beginning of the year). One thing is clear... No one tries harder when they're on the floor than SJ. For that reason alone I'd say he deserves an expanded role even once Marcus comes back. No more 2 minute stints and a quick hook if he makes one mistake or misses one shot.

KCP and SJ are primarily heart players with a defensive mindset. They both have potential on offense and passing, but are primarily defense first Piston type players. KCP leads by example and Stanley will develop into a vocal leader.

Both of these guys fit perfectly to balance out the offensive mindedness and emotion driven play of Reggie and Drummond.

Start KCP and SJ! Put some heart and energy into the starting unit because RJ and Dre are too up and down. They've been that way, and they both are motivated by scoring, not defense. That's just how they are made. Can't change it.

Leuer is a starting PF, Harris is a scorer off the bench, and Morris is a utility forward off the bench.

It's time to out round pegs in round holes and play a lineup that shows you understand the mental strengths and weaknesses of your players.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

RJ has heart. Losing doesn't help and being blamed for the losses adds fuel to the fire.

I don't think SJ will develop properly with RJ pounding the air out of the ball and not pushing the pace when both KCP and SJs are transition demons and at least SJ can be a lob threat too.

I'd be all for SJ starting if RJ shimmies his way out of the organization.

I think we should start Johnson and Harris, another ball handler, good wing defense a d heart to start the game with kcp. I also think he should take the entire starting g lineup out at 3min mark in the first and give the 2nd string the next 7 minutes then rotate from there. I think he has played better lately. Ish, Hilliard, Morris, Leur, and baines would be versatile offensively and a lot of movement.

yeah I agree he has heart especially to score the ball in the 4th quarter... but physically with his asthma and injury issues he's just not as tough physically as KCP and SJ, and not defensive minded. He's more of a scoring guard. Even though I have been noticing him trying to pick it up on that end... but it doesn't come natural.

If the team doesn't start playing better at some point we'll start seeing more of the younger guys. Pretty typical when teams are struggling and the season is essentially lost.

Of late, RJ is showing his best defensive effort since coming to the Pistons. He deserves credit for showing some progress in this area.

We've got another month before we should be having most of these conversations. This team has shown they can play with anybody when things are clicking and I'm not talking best case scenario for a game or two, long stretches. I say we stick with the Tobias off the bench thing for another month and then reevaluate a couple weeks before the deadline.

I'm down with starting Stanley but is still keep him around 20-22 mpg unless that unit is rolling. I like the idea of more defense in our starting unit with Ish, Mook and Tobias off the bench.

This season is on the verge of lost, if not already past that point.

Start Johnson, give him 15 shots a game and see if he can come out of his offensive coma and show some promise again.

Time for Stanley Johnson to start playing like he should be a starter.

He's still shooting like crap, still has no idea of how to convert his strength into scoring.

I'm cool with giving SJ a bigger role... However, we're 1.5 games out of the 8th seed and 2 games out of the 6th seed with 46 games left and the teams above us aren't really playing any better. The 8th seed may very well be below .500 this year.

We're literally 2-3 wins in a row from being in the mix for a decent playoff seed.

energy level on the defensive end, he brings a lot of effort that automatically translates to momentum especially on a stop. SJ to start would work but i don't think he's a consistent enough player yet to warrant that start. If we end up tanking, bring that sh* on . I say we still sit RJ and start Ish and put TH back in the starting lineup.

Our offensive sets start with KCP or Harris at beginning of games.
