My thoughts are that this team is fundamentally flawed and can not win a championship as it is constructed now. We have too many players with different playing styles that just don't mesh. I am not sure if we can make minor adjustment and fix this. I think we need to make some major changes... O.K. not really!!! Seriously,I AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD OR COULD DO THIS!!! But IS fun to think about! I am kidding!!! But just for fun here is my "BLOW IT ALL UP! THE SKY IS FALLING!" plan.
First trade.
DET out: Drummond
BOS out: Johnson, Jerebko, Young, BRK 2017 1st, future Bos 1st, and one of the MEM or LAC picks in 2018
It helps Boston challenge for the title now and cuts a TON of money off the cap next season as all of the incoming players are expiring. Oh, the picks are good too!
Trade two.
DET out: Jackson and Johnson
PHL out: Noel and PHL 2017 1st
Might just be the best deal Philly gets for Noel. We get more cap room and another 2017 1st plus Noel to replace Drummond.
Trade three.
DET out: Harris, Baynes
DEN Out: Nurkic, Barton, and the Memphis 1st that is owed to them (6-30 2017).
Denver is shopping both players. We get two young players and a pick plus more cap space.
In the end we end up with:
Leuer PF/C Boban C Smith PG Morris SF/PF KCP SG Bullock SG/SF Ellenson PF Udrih PG Hilliard SG/SF Gbinije SG/SF A. Johnson (BOS) PF/C Jerebko (BOS) SF/PF Young (BOS) SG Noel (PHL) C Barton (DEN) SG/SF Nurkic (DEN) PF/C
That is one too many players but releasing Young would solve that. Plus we remove the top three highest salaries from our books. That frees up 60 million of cap space (after figuring in Nurkic's and Barton's salaries and Noel's qualifying offer). We will have a HUGE hole at PG and questions at center, but lots of resources to solve them. We will have added two good young prospects in Barton and Nurkic, not to mention 4 first round picks in what is being touted as the best draft in a long time. Three of those picks should be lotto picks (PHL, BRK, and DET after this mess is over!) with two probably being in the top five (PHL, BRK).
Potential free agent PG's 2017
Kyle Lowry
Jeff Teague
George Hill
I AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD OR COULD DO THIS!!! But it's cold. The Pistons are playing like poop and we can all use a (in?)sanity break. So I am challenging all of you to come up with YOUR "BLOW IT ALL UP! THE SKY IS FALLING!" plan, and post it here! Let's have some fun! No serious scenarios allowed!!!

Well I figured the trade thread was for serious trades NOT for unrealistic "just for fun" stuff like this. I figured there was no need to fill that thread up with this kind of stuff.

IT was intended to be a joke! And give people a place to put this kind of crazy homer stuff in just to break up the monotony. I even said so in the post... twice! Try reading ALL of the post next time before criticizing, it was supposed to be unrealistic! That was the IDEA!

Ridiculous trades.
Regardless of that fact. The reality is, if you don't have one of the top 5 players in the league, you have about zero chance of being a real contender. That's why nobody takes Toronto seriously, even though they tear it up in the regular season.
People knocked "The Process" in Philadelphia, and I understand the reasoning. Most fans don't want a team that is effectively designed to not be competitive. But, Sam Hinkie knew his team wasn't going to be a legitimate contender unless he got a player that would eventually be a top 5 player.
A treadmill playoff team is our ceiling. And, really, that isn't the worst thing in the world. Gores gets some playoff revenue, casual fans can enjoy a couple home game in the playoffs. But, this team is capped out with a low ceiling.

Yeesh, what every happened to optimism?? lol
All joking aside, this line of thinking is certainly justified. The team failed to build off an encouraging season and has seemingly taken a step or two backwards.
HOWEVER,
We DO have pieces of a very high-quality team. Reggie and Andre make for one of the best 1-5 combos in the league. KCP is proving himself to be one of the top 2-way players in the league. Leuer is a very solid piece that analytic nerds adore. Tobias looks tailor-made for the 6th man role as he has been flourishing. Hell, even if nothing else, Stanimal has shown that he is capable of guarding 3, sometimes 4 positions very well.
So I guess what I'm getting at is that I disagree. We've underachieved this far, absolutely, but to say that this team has a low ceiling with little chance to improve, considering our youth and growth potential, is a bit short-sighted.

That's fine if you disagree. I never said the team is terrible, just that their ceiling for success doesn't lie in the NBA finals. They'll probably finish somewhere between 7th and 9th this year.

drummond is the only player to watch in thişs team. he is underrated offensviely. but he may be the worst defensive center in the game. so we need a good defender amd shooter next to him. it is ibaka. get rid of jackson, just a ball hog, not a point guard. get shooters and lock down defenders. I am not a fan of kcp but he has improved his 3 point shooting. if he gave up huge money he wants, that's ok, otherwise get another 3-d guy. it is easy to find. we need a pick and roll point guard and a secondary ball handler. so I basically define orlando team which was coached by svg. if that team had a better point guard than nelson, howard would be there right now.

Let's expand that to top 10. So who's on the top 10 list in the NBA and who should we target for trade 1.Lebron 2.Durant 3.Curry(screw u warriors) 4.Leonard(cause Kawhi or Kahwi doesn't look right) 5.Westbrook 6.Harden 7.Paul George 8.Kyrie(screw u Cavs) 9.Butler 10.?
So George or Jimmy are the only maybe available guys. SJ+2017 unprotected 1st+2019 unprotected 1st+Ellenson+Tobias is about the best we could offer

I'd put Cousins in the top 10.
None of those players are legitimately available. We've heard murmurs, but I'd imagine that the asking price is probably so high right now that no team is willing to pay the price.

Ya true. Cousins. Don't want him though. Eff it all lol just keep our young players and draft picks and hope we catch fire with one of them. We're still super young and gonna improve. Growing pains suck though
