What's your best team with $15 to spend?

Players are at their Piston peak, not career peak

PF have to do 4 or 5... so 4 for Dennis Rodman
11 bucks left.
2 for Andre Drummond, good price and match with Rodman
6 total 9 bucks left.
Billups 4, Pope 3, Morris 2 - - -

That is first impression.

Billups and Pope in the back court
Rodman and Dre up front
Morris at sf.

I would do this except have Ben Wallace instead of Bill

Let's do this smartly. You can't take any bums. With all respect to future Stanley Johnson, all the $1 players are bums except Monroe, and I don't want his lack of rim protection on my team either.

If you're going to take a $5 player, there would need to be an extreme drop off to the $4 player. I love Chauncey enough to almost eliminate Isiah as an option, Sheed shouldn't cost more than Rodman anyway, and my irrational love for Big Ben eliminates Lanier. Hill? That's quite possible, because Tayshaun ain't much. I'd rather have Morris than Tayshaun anyway. Dumars is also possible, but probably not.

Viable picks, to me:

Center: Wallace 4 or Dre 2 (do I pay $2 for a massive defensive upgrade? probably)
PF: Rodman 4, Harris 3, or Mahorn 2 (probably not Harris, although I might need the scoring ability)
SF: Hill 5 or Morris 2 (I couldn't handle Tripuka's defense... but maybe with Big Ben around?)
SG: Anyone but Gordon, really (Dumars is O+D, Rip is O, KCP is D, Vinny is O to a lesser extent)
PG: Isiah 5 or Chauncey 4 because I don't think you win with the others

I'll go with Big Ben (4), Mahorn (2), Morris (2), KCP (3), Chauncey (4). The defense is gonna be awesome and intimidating, although scoring ain't gonna be easy. If the jumpers aren't falling, we're trying to win 75-74.

Pretty talented team:

Billups ($4)
Microwave ($2)
Grant Hill ($5)
Mahorn ($2)
Drummond ($2)

Another way would be to say there are three main guys who were the heartbeat for their championships. Zeke for the first two and Billups/Wallace for the second. Grab at least two of those at all costs (preferably Zeke) and decide they can win with whoever:

Zeke ($5)
Vinnie Johnson ($2)
Marcus Morris ($2)
Rick Mahorn $2
Ben Wallace ($4)

First off, great thread, Lambs! Kudos!

Okay, so here's my thinking —

1) I've got to take Grant Hill, because the drop off from him to the rest of the SF options is larger than at any other position. So there's $5.

2) I've got to take Zeke, 'cuz ... well, 'cuz he's Zeke, a first ballot HOFer and the greatest player in team history (plus, my all time favorite player growing up). So there's another $5.

3) So I've got two INSANE talents and $5 to put three role players around them, which leads me to ...

PG — Isiah ($5)
SG — Gordon ($1)
SF — Hill ($5)
PF — Mahorn ($2)
C — Dre ($2)

I actually think the Dre / Mahorn front line works really well with Hill and Isiah, who will obviously handle the bulk of the team's scoring and ball handling. Gordon is just told to sit out at the 3 point line and try to hit enough to keep defenses honest.

PG Bynum
SG Vinny
SF Hill
PF Sheed
C Drummond

I went with Will because he's a good pure PG and great in the PnR. Should work well as a distributor, especially with the bigs. Although he's a defensive liability, I'm hoping Sheed/Andre/Hill can pick up the slack.
Vinny is a good all-around SG who can stretch the floor and get points.
Grant is a good secondary ball-handler who can do it all. Grant f'n Hill...
Sheed at the PF spot. Another great all around guy who stretches the floor and compliments Andres offensive and defensive limitations. A great defender/rebounder/ and scorer.
Dre at C. I think this is good value for the position, and he works with a compliment of players who should cover his offensive and defensive flaws. Dre would also be well served to play with a guy like Sheed in his ear, on the court.

I really want a frontcourt of Laimbeer Sheed and Rodman. Then I would have no money left over. Grrrr.
So I'm going with a sick defensive team and the best PG we've ever had. Isiah Pope Stanley Rodman Drummond. Isiah would get the best out of Drummond. Or Billups Pope Marcus Tobias and big bad Billy Laimbeer. He shot the 3 real well and all 5 could shoot the 3 and spread the floor nice. Very frustrating question this is at 8 in the morning lmao. So many options but not options cause I run out of money.

Chauncey - $4
KCP - $3
Hill - $5
Jonas - $1
Drummond - $2

Really wanted Rodman but couldn't make it work. There's a chasm in value between Grant Hill and any other SF (I think people forget/are too young to realize how good he was before injuries crushed him, plus his leaving clouds some opinions), Hill & Chauncey can share play making duties and they can play 4 out with Dre down low. Jonas's role is to just spot up in the corner and stay out of the way, KCP can bird dog the other team's best perimeter player.

Here's my 5:
Zeke (5)
Microwave (2)
Stanimal (1)
Rodman (4)
Lamb (3)

My logic: 4 of these 5 played together, and played a major role on a championship team. Thomas is the best player on the board, so I'm rolling with him by default. If I'm picking one $5 player, it's him.

I'm gambling with SJ, but I'm assuming at his best, he's a stingy defender and plays hard. I also think he'd embrace his role, and Rodman and Lamb will set the tone.

Essentially 4 of these guys would reasonably be on the court at the same time on a championship team. SJ is the outlier, but he's a young, hardworking guy who could excel in this situation. At worst if he struggles, Rodman is versatile enough to switch if needed.

Nice thread. An observation, if we're assessing these players based on their Piston careers, Rodman played primarily the 3 here, not the 4.

Taking a cue from the more frequently mentioned above.

Dre
Mahorn
Hill
Vinnie
Billups

No one has gone for Lanier, Dumars, Monroe, Tripuka, Tay, or Rip unless I'm missing it.

Great thread....

I really want to start with Isiah since he's the most dominant player and should thrive in todays league, but trying to pair him up with a reasonably good defender at the 2 is a huge tax on the budget and I don't want any $1 players. Ah well...

PG: Isiah ($5)
SG: KCP ($3)
SF: Mook ($2)
PF: Ricky ($2)
C: Lamb ($3)

It's a reasonable facsimile of the Bad Boys with KCP playing the role of Joe D as a 2-way guard who can defend either position and Mook playing the role of Aguire. Aint non of these guys about to lie down for anybody.

You could also argue that Jerebko had his best year filling at at SF for Prince. He wasn't quite the same at his "natural" position after coming back from injury. Not that it really matters in this scenario, cuz he's still crap lol.

I'm a little curious how we came up with these 25 players. It's clearly not top 5 at each position or you'd see guys like Dice, Allan Houston & Corliss bumping a few people off the list and those are just more recent names. And can't forget Stackhouse and Atkins!

^^ Rather randomly and quickly. Emphasis on current players and title teams with a few greats sprinkled in.

1 Greg Monroe

Dollar remainder.

Great point. If you add Dave Bing and Dave DeBusschere near the top of the SG and PF lists (respectively), the cheap options at those positions get MUCH more appealing. And even more so if you add Houston and Dice as well (so much so that I'm not honestly sure Corliss even makes the the PF list!).
